I do like that the space is less crowded than most tiny/small homes, but I see a lot of wasted space, as well. ..but nothing a few, simple renovations couldn’t fix. Definitely one of the better kitchens I’ve seen! I would also change the support posts on the front porch; they’re a bit grandiose for the house. But, yes, I could live here!

Thanks Liz. I could too. But like you, I’d also make a few changes if I could 🙂

The posts are wonderful. Tiny houses need some impact in the front so they don’t look like storage sheds.

Love it, love it! Wonderful colors, and beautiful garden. It’s funny, because after looking at tiny houses, this one seems like a mansion!

I was thinking the exact same thing! It is about as big as my first apartment with my husband. Actually, I think it may be a bit bigger! lol

Throw some doors on those kitchen shelves and I was all ready to move in. Until I saw the $300k asking price. 🙁

That, Kelly was my sentiment exactly! I loved it, and it was very well designed. Bright and airy, but for that price (That is the cost of my home now and I have four bedrooms, 4 baths and a full size finished basement!)

Totally fabulous!!! I’m only planning on a tiny house on wheels (THOW) but if for some reason plans change and I have to live in a foundation tiny house, this is a front runner!!! (LOVE the rich colors and the porch supports; very Art Deco craft house; and SO well done!!!) This gets five gold stars!!!

      August 27, 2014, 1:33 pm

Thanks Lisa! THOWs are great because you don’t have to pay all the zoning/code fees associated with building on a foundation (and you can build a lot smaller than the laws allow because it’s technically an RV not really a ‘permanent home’)

It is a charming, well laid out home in a beautiful setting but I didn’t see the water in any of the photos…?

      August 27, 2014, 1:31 pm

I know it’s too bad I couldn’t see the water either but when I google mapped it you can see that it’s right there on the coast. But would be nice to see the view for sure.

  • August 26, 2014, 6:21 pm

I sent an email to the owners asking if orca whales can be seen and heard from the house. If so, I’m making an offer!
My Coast Guard husband has promised me we will live in the Pacific Northwest…hopefully within the next year or so. Fingers crossed!

Alex the Paris Rental rework is done and I have to admit for 420 sq.ft. it is kind of nice. This home reminds me a little of the function and I like the materials in it and Lisa E. hit it right on the head very Art Deco Craft type you would want to e at he coast.

This is one I could live in comfortably, except for the price.

  • August 27, 2014, 12:44 pm

Thank you for all the nice comments, it was an enjoyable house to build. It’s for sale and it’s across the street from the beach with deeded beach rights and a private access – but it’s not oceanfront. I’m really not sure how that idea came about but it’s just a mistake.

The plan will be available for free in September.

Thanks for clarifying that Shawn. I’ll edit the article so that it’s clear.

      • August 27, 2014, 2:34 pm

Thanks for making the correction. Thanks too for sharing the little Beekeeper’s Bungalow, my wife and I enjoyed building it together!

Oooh, my heart just beat a little faster with this one! I simply love it! I know that we all would make little changes to suit our own personal taste, but overall this is in my top 5 favorites. “Honeeeeey, I’m Hooooome!”
Shawn Dehner – any chance you can help us get a look inside the house next door? I don’t want to move there – It’s just vulgar curiosity that makes me want to peek inside of every tiny/small home I see. Kudos on your fantastic little cottage!

      August 27, 2014, 4:45 pm

Okay, Did everyone already know that the tiny house property next door is also included in the purchase price? Just read it on Zillow…and there are pics!

    • August 27, 2014, 5:29 pm

Laura nailed it on the head: the the tiny house comes with the Beekeeper’s Bungalow. The tiny house was our builder’s cottage for two years while we built the required house and there are photos at the website. The plans for each are free too – though the BB won’t be up until September 1 – you’re free to build either or both wherever you choose.

Love this house.. super cute! But the price!!! Oh my goodness what were they thinking?? There is a small house next door too! Very cool!

I adore this house! It’s absolutely perfect. I like the fact that the rooms are a little separated, but everything is also very close. Having real stairs is a plus for me. I hate climbing ladders in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

Love the small home and although it appears expensive at first glance, the finishes and detail would add quite a bit to the end price. Just built to lockup stage I should imagine would save lots of the final costs. Yeah but it sure is nice. I could live in this one with ease. Thanks for sharing and Cheers from Australia.

While I’m fascinated by THOWs I’m also realistic and understand that my DW would never go for a tiny home. However, a well built smaller home is definitely an option she is willing to entertain once we’re empty nesters. That’s why I saved every picture of this home the first time I saw it on this website. I agree with Brian above that a good chunk of this home’s expense lies in the quality of the materials used, and the attention to detail…you’re paying for craftsmanship. Also, the location has to factor into the asking price…deeded ocean access just over a football field away. For those posters who are dismayed by the price relative to the size of the home, of course you can purchase more house for the same amount of money…but that “more” comes with more taxes, more insurance, more utility bills, more maintenance expenses and more demands on your time. I would put this house & it’s secondary structure on a little bit of acreage, in a cheaper part of the country, pay the same price, and argue that it was still worth it because the actual savings and the intrinsic value are both realized on the backside. Cheers from Michigan.

Exactly what I am looking for.

    August 31, 2015, 12:45 pm

Would materials be under 100k for something like this. We have seen countless 800sf designs but can never determine price to build yourself. I would want pier construction…kits for homes this size from Menards home store are about 40k…

I assume when you see designs in fine homebuilding and they talk about $180 per foot to build, that is when you are paying for labor too?

    Thanks

    • September 1, 2015, 11:53 pm

Materials, including foundation work, were $60,000US. The land itself was much more! I built owned the land, built the house, and sold it in October. You can download the plan for free from the website anytime!
