Small Island Cottage on Keewaydin Island by Architect Bert Brosmith

In the 1950’s architect Bert Brosmith designed this small island cottage just south of where I live.

It’s only accessible by boat and is very small.

Today the core of the building is standing strong but the cantilevered decks are unstable.

So the entire cottage is in need of a renovation. It was built in 1959 after all.

Because the cottage is only accessible by boat, the costs for renovating are triple or quadruple that of if it were accessible by vehicles.

It would be sad to see this structure get destroyed because I believe it to be a rich part of our area’s history.

Inside you can open the large sliding windows and allow the breeze to come through.

The porch allows you to look over the waterway and the best thing about it is that it creates a connection and appreciation for the nature around us here in Southwest Florida.

Here’s another shot of the house back when it was in better condition.

Meanwhile I’ve been wondering how many other little structures are out there on this island?

Can you tell me the current status of the cottage? Is it for sale? Thank you,
    Kevin

As far as I know, Kevin, it is not for sale but I am sure it wouldn’t hurt to make an offer to the current owners. If you need help with who to contact let me know at [email protected] and I’ll help you
