Single Mom’s Retirement Solution: A Tiny Home

This post contains affiliate links.

Hillary raised her three children on her own since they were 6, 4 and 2, and while her job in law enforcement provided for them, it was never enough for Hillary to save for retirement. Once her kids were grown and out of the house, she chose tiny living so she could retire comfortably!

She was able to pay cash for her THOW and has no mortgage — only the monthly land rental fee she pays to her landlords. Her two older animals — a dog and cat — live with her and enjoy her fenced-in yard. And she calls it “cheating,” but Hillary also has a shed on the property for her seasonal clothes, a deep-freezer and extra pantry goods.

I really love the landscaped area outside! That extra secure area is awesome and safe from the wildlife. The shed is cute and much-needed extra space. The inside of your Tiny is warm and cozy and seems to have everything you could need or want. Great tip on the Tiny notebook too! My dream is to go Tiny. With 7 kids, (all grown up now), we have never been able to save for the future. However, we do have a large home we plan to sell soon and that would allow us to build a custom Tiny suited to our needs. Just searching for that perfect place to park, hopefully very long term. I am really curious as to what state you live in! Thanks for sharing with the rest of us!

She never says where, and there doesn’t appear to be any contact information for her, but the star on the shed and on her home suggests Texas, as it’s the Lone Star State and that’s a fairly common decoration choice there…

Very nice layout. The kitchen is great. I like the enclosed upper cabinets. I always wonder if the dishes stored on open shelves collect dust and grease from cooking.

I think it is perfect. Very nice. It looks like Arizona.

Who was the builder of her Tiny House? She didn’t say. What kind of toilet is that? Love her home.

The toilet is a Separett, it’s a type of dry toilet that is marketed as a composting toilet. Though, it’s less of a composting toilet than the more common Nature’s Head but people can prefer it because it’s more automatic and uses disposable bio-degradable trash bags.

She’s thought of everything! This tiny she has beautifully organised. Fantastic that she has the shed, lots of room outside, a neat deck, etc., etc., etc. Very impressive!!!

One of the best Tiny House tours i have seen. The house is well set out, plenty of room for things and comfortably caters for her animals. A lot of the ideas were very practical and user friendly.

Wonder Wo—maaan!! (my attempt at the theme song in print.) Really, I am just sooo impressed with Hillary, and I can’t even name all the ways. So I’ll just say that I love your house, love your attitude, love your capable self. You have exactly what I wish for. By George you planned for it, paid for it, and are now reaping your reward and living the life! Congratulations Hillary! Best wishes for your home to always just work for you.

I just re-reviewed Hillary’s wonderful THOW, a bit more than a year after my first review, above. No changes in my humble opinion. This house is so well planned for exactly what Hillary needs, and I am very impressed with the build itself, and their flexibility in order to meet Hillary’s needs. So I am wondering if there is any info yet from her on what company built her home, where she is renting and the amount of rent for what amenities, the length and width of the home, etc. (Etc means the price if she is willing to share that. : D ). I still love it Hillary! I wonder if you have re-org’d any further, or if you are still living the good life as you have shown us.

Very nice! I think law enforcement officers should have the best retirement plans in the nation to show appreciation for the very difficult jobs they all do. I’m sorry that your retirement plan fell short of what you deserved, but I’m happy you were able to retire without a mortgage in a lovely home in a good neighborhood. Be safe and happy.
