This is a shipping container skyscraper concept in Mumbai, India designed by Ganti Associates.

The idea is to create an adequate housing solution for people of the densely populated Dharavi area, which is one of the largest slums in the world.

The design of the high-rise structure is proposed to be approximately 32 stories high and each apartment consists of 3 standard size 320 sq. ft. (40’ long x 8’6” high x 8’ wide) shipping containers. Pretty amazing, right?

Wow, love the puzzle artistry of the shipping container high rise. The concept seems eco-friendly. I love the shipping container concept as it seems like a wave of the future to easily move anywhere in the world.

I like the idea of it, but the overall idea and look of it scares me to death! What happens in an earthquake? I think it is an amazing concept in terms of affordable housing, but safety issues would be my only concern. It is wonderful to see designers thinking outside the shipping container to come up with solutions to house overwhelmed populations. Perhaps less tall versions could be considered in other urban areas. Well done!

    WOW!
This is nice for the over population of shipping containers. The folks that came up with this idea are very smart and should receive an award for the idea. This is the solution for shortage of land in the city.

the way a container is designed is for the loads to be transfered through the corners to the container below and the corners then have locking pins the way this stack is designed puts the load from the upper containers to be put into the side wall which is not structualy sound and may buckle unless extra steel is used to transfer the loads …. looks good but would need some more thought

Es espectacular! Lo mas novedoso que he visto y funcional. Bien pensado en todos los aspectos. Ojala en Mexico hicieran algo asi.

Yeah right. I want to live in a stack of boxes with a bunch of other people right next door. No thanks. i will stick to my 10 acres with neighbors I cannot see and never have to interact with.

Beautiful look, however, how do they provide air conditioning to the units w/o compromising the structural integrity?? This must be an architectural rendering only.

Is that comment a joke. It is in a slum in India-they don’t have air conditioning. Even if you weren’t living in a slum, in most countries that aren’t considered 1st world, especially the ones that are the hottest, air conditioning is ridiculously expensive.

Em lets think about it shall we ?
If you look at the design plans! You might just make out in probably .12 print the word “DUCT” and what does a duct do, think there in lies your answer

What an awesome design!! It’s great to be able to help people in need. Especially in India where these people live in a crowded country. This might just be the next solution in helping people who are homeless. To have a better quality of life. Keep on designing, I think your on to something. Great job!! Carol Perry
