Meet Lindsay, a 63-year-old English woman who had a dream to start an eco village in Morocco — and did just that! Using a 2-brick mold, she and volunteers have created some 10,000 adobe bricks over the past 5 years to create a number of structures in the village including her home, the “boat house,” volunteer accommodations and a “yin-yang” retreat.
The Assilah Eco Village currently accepts between 2-3 volunteers to live and work at the village in 3-week-or-longer stints. It’s a great chance to learn how to build with natural materials like bamboo, cob, straw, and eucalyptus wood. You can request to work with her (COVID-travel-permitting) here.

This is beautiful! Wonder if here in CA this would be acceptable. The laws they have are sometimes ridiculous.
Presently, aside from New Mexico, not really, though people have gotten them up by either keeping them under 120 Sq Ft or spending a lot of money on engineering it and having an engineer sign off on it to get it accepted… While some other states have some exceptions that can allow them under certain conditions. Like Nevada, Humboldt and Mendocino allow cob to be used for dwellings under a state code provision for rural limited density housing.
However, this will be changing with the 2021 International Residential Code (IRC) update that introduces Appendix U for Cob construction… So any state that adopts that update or later will then have the option to start including code for earthen structures. Much like the 2018 update introduced Appendix Q for tiny houses 400 Sq Ft and under on foundations…
So much talent here. Friendships forged working on a project together are the best and often last a lifetime. I wish I had friends that wanted to hang out in Scottsdale Arizona to help me finish some projects that got interrupted after I was hit by a car on my bike. She is so lucky to have such talented friends. Lovely designs that are so unique and wonderful.
