Shakalo 20-ft. Off-Grid Low-Maintenance Tiny House on Wheels

If you’re lucky enough to own some extra land somewhere, putting a tiny house there for personal family vacations is a great way to get a lower-cost vacation property! That’s what this Colorado couple did. They reached out to Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses to have an off-grid, low maintenance THOW built and delivered to their remote land outside of Durango.

The metal siding should hold up to the wind and snow, and they have multiple off-grid systems, and backup systems, to keep them warm no matter the weather. There’s a loft bedroom, 32″ shower stall, and composting toilet. The build came to about $65,000 without the solar array.

I like the idea of buying just bare land to keep the property taxes down and then having a camper/tiny home on wheels there for vacations, seasonal stays, or even full time living if that’s legal.
Add a storage shed or a small garage for tools and toys and it’s a great get away retreat. You can forego the shed on the land if you can rent a storage shed nearby. More secure storage than having one at your property if you are away for extended periods. Here in Wisconsin a 10X20 is $75 a month and a 10X25 with electric is $110 a month.

This is a very well thought out… well built tiny house. I would not change or add anything.
