For the near-future society where everything is connected digitally, Honda will provide a modes of warm, face-to-face ā€œconnection.ā€ The Honda IeMobi Concept connects to the home seamlessly, connecting electricity and entertainment information from car to home, and home to car. When parked, IeMobi becomes a ā€œroomā€ with around 5m2 of living space. By using IeMobi matching the userā€™s lifestyle, such as a guest room to invite friends, or a mobile pantry for weekend shopping, new possibilities in mobility and lifestyle are born.1

That isn’t anything like what will happen with SD Tiny homes. I’ve been predicting this since the SDC idea came seriously out.
And they won’t attach to a home, they’ll be the home.
All you really need is a place to sit, sleep and a bath, toilet and for 1 person, that could be done in the one shown.
About 50% larger for 2 people in love. ;^)
And instead of paying rent, will just roam the streets in expensive cities dropping you off at work and picking you up afterward. And it’ll cause traffic jams.
With solar and pop out solar awning and./or a pop up wind generator, could be self sufficient.

I was thinking more of a RV type thing. Autonomous, electric with range extending solar cells. Automatically docs at charge and dump stations as required. What a way to see the country THAT would be! The best of independent transport and rail accommodations in one.

Well, I must say I was as disappointed with this article as the above commenters were HOWEVER:
When the article mentioned a mobile pantry, I was hooked.

Imagine pulling up to the grocery store with your refrigerator and pantry in tow. Buy your food, fill up your pantry and fridge, drive home and attach it to your house — preferably with a connecting door so you don’t have to go outside to pull any food you want to prepare.
By far, my least favorite part of grocery shopping is bringing everything home and putting it away. Voila! Problem solved!

Add a second unit for my trips to the lumber yard — I do love to putter at woodworking — and I’m set for life!

Nope, this does not qualify as a tiny home — but the possibilities are still intriguing.

Two crows I do not see much advantage in your comment ‘hate to put away groceries’. That is exactly what you are doing whether the refrigerator is with you or at home. I see no difference in driving and RV unit or even taking the camping unit with you as you are still unpacking the groceries from the bags to stow away in your unit.

The concept from Honda may be practical for someone but still sounds more like a modified RV unit. The image posted looks similar to the little RVs used in Japan. Many a single person can survive eating/sleeping in a small room with a cot, refrigerator, microwave or hot plate cooking unit. A Home is both the attitude of the person using the space and how they use or dress it up to make that space their home no matter the size, shape or portability of that space.

Self-driving THOW sounds more like using Tesla concept with cars. At present these ‘self-driving’ cars are still very expensive and have a lot of bugs to work out to be truly safe. A human is still required to monitor the vehicle and step in to avoid many accidents. Technology is constantly changing and improvements are being made. We may yet see sleeping units or homes arrive by placing a phone call to order and traveling as with current Uber/Lyft contractors but using technology not humans to transport the vehicle.
