This family wanted to save up to build their forever home on some lake-front property in Michigan, so they decided to go tiny in order to afford it! All six of them are living in a 37″ Grand Design Imagine 3250BH on family property with no mortgage payment while they build.
Their four kids have an awesome bunkroom on one end of the house, while mom and dad have their master suite on the other side. In the middle is the living and kitchen area, complete with a dinette, couch, faux fireplace and fully-functional kitchen.

Sarah Talks About Moving Into an RV
What are your name(s)?
Carson + Sarah
How many people (and animals) are living in your RV renovation?
We are a blended family of 6!
Where do you live?
We are currently ‘moochdocking’ at my (Sarah’s) mom’s house in Kentucky!
How long have you lived tiny?
Two months
What do you do for work?
Carson is a master plumber and Sarah is a homeschooling mom.
Why did you decide to go tiny?
We are planning to build a cabin on our lake property in Michigan. Living in our rv while we build.
What are you hoping to get out of living tiny?
We hope living tiny will afford us the opportunity to save money while building our forever home.
How did you first learn about tiny life?
We have always been intrigued by tiny living. We have watched several shows about tiny homes over the years. Although we never thought we would live tiny until COVID. We spent a month at our property in Michigan in an even smaller RV than we currently live in. That’s when we realized we could definitely ‘survive’ living tiny if it meant working toward our goal of building a cabin.
How did you acquire your RV?
We purchased our travel trailer new from a dealer.
Have you done any renovations?
We have updated our RV and made it our own with paint only, no major renovations.
What are bills/utilities like compared to before?
Honestly utilities are fairly similar. It’s cold now so we are going through a lot of propane for heat. We don’t have a mortgage anymore so that is a large decrease in our overall bills.
How did you find a place to “park” your home?
For now we are parked at my (Sarah’s) mom’s house. We are going to be here for the winter since we can’t start building until the spring.
Before going tiny, what was life like?
Prior to living tiny, we lived in a 2700 sqft home so I guess the major change is we are all literally closer. Living tiny really forces you to be close, to communicate, to spend time together. It really has been a blessing for our family.
Is there anything from your old life that you miss?
Having a bath tub!!!
What benefits are you experiencing after going tiny?
We are closer as a family, we communicate more, spend more time together. It has also taught me to live with less. Not just less space but less clutter. Less junk.
What about some challenges?
Sharing one bathroom is probably the biggest challenge!
What makes your tiny home special?
I asked this aloud while answering these questions and my daughter said the people in it and I agree!!
What is your favorite part of your tiny home?
Definitely the living area, I love how cozy it is!
What helpful advice would you give to others interested in going tiny?
There really is no preparing for living tiny, you just have to go for it! It’s quite an adjustment but you learn along the way what works for you and your family.
