Jake chose van life for an unconventional reason — he was tired of living with roommates! He enjoys all the other pros of vanlife like the freedom and cost-savings, but those weren’t the driving force behind his decision.

He works seasonally as a wildlife biologist, so vanlife works great for his career. In the video below, he shares the truth about living in a van and some of the very real cons of a nomadic existence — including loneliness!

I so enjoyed this guy’s perspective and his journey. He was so honest about the pros and cons of his choice — and love all the beautiful Cypress cedar wood plus how he is so realistic about his choice.

This is beautiful, and I love the nostalgic touches. The kitchen is wonderful. You’re right about the loneliness part. It’s important to plan on traveling and parking where you can make friends and be in involved with community. I had that in Globe, AZ with friends and local people I got to know at the laundry mat, restaurants, art center, church, and coffee shops, not to mention the great people with which I had the privilege of working and teaching. It’s so important. Here in NC, I am surrounded by my large and wonderful family along with old friends, so the community is still with me. Very good point you made, very wise advice.
