Rocky Mount, NC — (July 18, 2018) — Rocky Mount Mills, a picturesque 150-acre mixed-use destination on the Tar River, announced today the development of River & Twine, the first and only tiny home hotel in eastern NC and one of if not the largest such attraction in the entire nation.

River & Twine will feature 20 unique, brand new tiny homes located on the bank of the idyllic Tar River directly adjacent to all of Rocky Mount Mills’ many amenities, including breweries, restaurants and a seasonal concert series. To develop this riverfront destination, Rocky Mount Mills is contracting with two builders — Modern Tiny Living and Free Spirit Tiny Homes — nationally renowned for their work on small and irresistible living spaces.

Each home — ranging in size from 188 to 244 sq ft — will be different in style and plenty private while being part of a cohesive family-friendly environment. You can download a variety of appealing images as well as the full River & Twine brochure here.

“River & Twine will offer a one-of-a-kind experience for all visitors to Rocky Mount,” says Tim Rogers, Rocky Mount Mills/Capitol Broadcasting Company. “Whether you’re here for work, sports, recreation or simply to chill, River & Twine will be your go-to spot for a unique get away.”

Located on the woodsy southeast side of the spacious campus, each tiny home will feature:

  • Modern amenities include full-size glass door showers, microwaves, fridges and coffee makers in all homes
  • Complimentary high-speed internet and smart TVs
  • Heating and air conditioning

In addition, the tiny home hotel community will include amenities shared by pod groupings of five homes, including fire pits, grilling stations, outdoor games and children’s play areas. Eventually, it will also feature woodsy walkways to greenways planned by the City along and near the Tar River.

“The tiny house movement is — at least for thousands of people — a way to unplug and rediscover who we are,” says Trent Haery, Co-Founder of Modern Tiny Living. “The riverfront at Rocky Mount Mills is the perfect place to do that. Plus, if you’d like to plug back in, restaurants and breweries are just a short hike away.”

Adds Rocky Mount Mills Development Manager Matt Honeycutt, “At Rocky Mount Mills, we think outside the box about placemaking experiences. Transforming a historic cotton mill into a mixed-use destination requires imagination. And the allure of tiny homes fits perfectly with that creative approach.”

Overnight stays will start at $129 and extended stays of 30+ days will be available, as well.

River and Twine will begin taking reservations in the fall of 2018 and is scheduled to open around the end of 2018.

About Rocky Mount Mills
Historic Rocky Mount Mills includes 300,000 square feet of office/multi-use space (including the historic mill building), 10-20 acres for selected advanced manufacturing and, eventually, 100 new and restored homes/loft apartments as well as existing and future restaurants and other amenities. The campus also features craft breweries, a craft brewery incubator and a brewery lab run by Nash Community College as part of their Brewing, Distillation, and Fermentation degree. Capitol Broadcasting Company (CBC) is leading the reinvention of Rocky Mount Mills — the same development team that transformed Durham’s American Tobacco Campus into an award-winning national model for historic rehabilitation.

DOG PARK DOG PARK DOG PARK!!!! SO very many Tiny Home residents share their homes with canine friends that it makes sense to include these in the 5 home pods!

Tiny houses and their lifestyle bring out the best in people and places. Moore county needs one of these communities. Anyone interested in helping me create one?

I couldn’t have said it better! What are your ideas for a community? Have you talked to anyone else about it before?

I have talked with a handful of like-minded people, and don’t quite know where to start. As a Realtor with Keller Williams Pinehurst, I will be able to find land…just am not familiar with what kind of zoning changes, infrastructure, funding, etc., that is unique to tiny home communities. It needs to be walking distance to every day conveniences (grocery store, banks, restaurants, etc.)…don’t know how many people can or will give up (or limit) dependence on their automobile.
Any suggestions on who I can contact that can give advice on how to “create” a tiny home community?
