Her Retirement Park Model Tiny House with a Crafting Room

This post contains affiliate links.

Brandy retired just before 2020, and the pandemic set her on a new path to tiny living. She’s honest about her downsize — it hasn’t been easy to purge her items or give up wall space for relatives’ artwork. But she’s also found ways to make the space work for her, including using her downstairs bedroom as an awesome crafting space (I’m jealous!).

She lives in a tiny house community with community gardens and she loves to cook and prepare the food she’s grown and give it to her neighbors. She sounds like someone you’d love living next door to.

She doesn’t say, but from the description and the fact she’s in a Tumbleweed Tiny Home by Platinum Cottages (9770 SH 31 W Malakoff, TX 75148)… It would seem likely she’s in Village Farm, in Austin TX…

On Platinum Cottages website, you’ll also find a list of Parks and Resorts that have at least one of their models…

I love her honesty on what works for her and what doesn’t. It’s a lovely home.

What a very nice fit for her at this stage of her life. I like it it a lot — what more does she need?
It is certainly hard to give up wall space for loved art work and I can certainly commiserate with her.
Otherwise, I hope she will enjoy what a nice place this is for her to live at this point in her life!!

seems she is adapting very well – giving up “stuff” is very hard, especially when it has personal meaning. I’m happy to hear that things can be omitted from the original plans of the home and changes can be made to suit the owner, good to know.

I can’t think of one thing I would change from her home, it is perfect for me as well.

Sincere congratulations to Brandy! Your home is lovely, perfectly designed, and so livable. What a blessing that U can have the key things that U “must have,” which are beautifully organized. (I’d hate for U to see my small tool closet, as it is something out of a horror movie.) I will pray for your continued good health — at this stage of life (I am 72 and much older than U) each of us must deal with this and/or that health complication. May U live to be 120 years old, with your health complications in check and U continuing to enjoy your upstairs bedroom with morning sunshine greeting U each day through your east window. Kindest regards, Stephan of Arkansas

I do appreciate your honesty of what works and does not work and the appliances with issues being not available any more. I just love how organized you have every inch of space. I too would not like how busy the tile work is. If you were looking at tiles to pick out or an empty unit, I can see where they look nice and modern but then when you go to move in and items are set out like you would for living purposes, it would be too busy for most people. It is extremely hard to let go of items we have acquired through the years. People do not understand unless they have been through it themselves. I still see a lot of space being wasted that could be used for storage of items you might only use once or twice a year. I do not like as many windows because I like to sleep in, I am a night person. So I would not have some of those upper windows and I would have cabinets put in for storage. I love your changes in the bathroom you made as well. And the curtain above the washer and dryer too. I think you have done an excellent job in down sizing. I love the full kitchen and you cooking for the neighbors.

Thank you so much. I love your candor about what this is like. I suspect the longer you are there the better you will like it… but I appreciate the poignancy of the restrictions and losses. This was really a GREAT look at the reality of Tiny House Living.

What a beautiful home! My favorite part is the front and back porches. So much space to be outside! For where I live, I would have to make the front one a screened in porch to keep the mosquitos away. Otherwise, I love the design, the larger appliances, and all the windows.

One of the best yet! The front and back porches are amazing as is the decor! She did a beautiful job!
