Today I’m introducing Red Door Tiny Homes, a new tiny house builder in Canada.

You might remember this house fromĀ our story of Josh, who started building his own tiny home (debt-free!) at 18 years old. He’s older now, lives in his itty bitty dwelling, and is now ready to build homes for you.

About The “Craftsman”:Ā

The “Craftsman” tiny home is gorgeous. Featuring a deep porch and classic cottage style metal roof. Real 8″ bevel cedar siding. Two shed dormers. Brand new tandem axle trailer foundation, and pine tongue and groove interior.

This house is the design of my own personal home. Thats right! a Tiny House builder that actually lives in a… tiny house!

The house is 8′ x 18′ (144 sq.ft.) excluding the porch and loft, and has been insulated with 2-pound closed cell spray foam; the best insulation on the market.
ā€‹
It has a comfortable 32″ x 32″ fiberglass shower, composting toilet, custom built maple kitchen cabinetry, two 24″ closets, and a 3 foot sleeping/storage loft over the porch. The main sleeping loft is open and airy thanks to the shed dormers and it’s four windows.

I’d love to say I love these THOWs, but without images of the loft and the method of access I cannot.

We have all of these builders building but no where to put our dream THOW’s. I just got finished reading a For Sale ad by a guy who is selling because he lost the agreement for a place to put it. He isn’t very happy and neither are the rest of us. I think the builders need to think about organizing something to start changing the codes and laws about THOWs. So many state regulations are interfering with the business of builders and our right to utilize land without unnecessary (for-profit real estate industry) interference. If we don’t get these laws changed, the THOW Movement is doomed to die; and I’m not being hyperbolic, here.

You’re not — you are right! However, I don’t think it’s just the builder’s responsibility. I think all tiny house lovers and future owners need to work together on this. Builders are part of a big tiny house puzzle, and the more voices that local governments hear, the better šŸ™‚

I agree, but my point is that government today, whether federal or state, are all pro-business. It’s one thing for us consumers to complain (and get ignored) but if the builders (businessmen) get involved in any significant way, it will give the whole movement more leverage. These builders have to understand, the whole market is going to die off if we don’t get some code/zoning law/realtors’ monopoly changes, then they won’t have to worry about it because it just won’t be there any more.
