A really darling place in a lovely setting. Two things popped out which I would do differently. The doors are unique and charming, however, I would have carried the interior wood across the interior of the doors, and it would give the room a larger feel. The outside toilet and shower are wonderful, but I would not be comfortable showering with the big, open space on the bottom. I can imagine what could be possibly join me in the shower with such a large space, and being in the shower is not a place one would want to be startled. I would make sure it was sealed tighter. Same with the outhouse. It is an open invitation for company. Other than those two items, it is a very sweet, rustic spot for a vacation.

Really sweet place. I would take some pepper spray to use on unwanted guests in the outhouse, but most of the outside critters avoid humans like the plaque.

      Cute, but–

Those doors are a beautiful recipe for disaster with the absurd steps!! The steps should
      A. Span the full width of the doors at the very least
      And preferably
      B. A platform at the top of the steps- to step on while you swing the doors OUTWARD, while outside, so you are not trying to go BACKWARDS down them whilst managing the door, or
Step forward from inside as the door swings open, trying to manage that first drop down step.

Before we built a platform and then a full deck/porch on our house we had this same situation- in fact there had never BEEN any sort of steps to the front door at all, even tho the house was built in the 1970’s!! Our insurance co demanded steps with a hand rail, so we quickly built some, 5 steps up with a wood rail. I cannot tell you how awkward and dangerous this was!! Fortunately we mostly used the rear door (also with NO RAILS–! where we parked. Almost impossible to use that front step with a package, or open it for a delivery, or have a small child step out onto it.

I agree that the interior of the doors could be nicer also.

York is fun, but the more Northerly Maine coast is much nicer.

Whatever did we do without all this type of information and codes in the 50’s when I was growing up? Oh wait!! We all lived happily and without falling and have lived to tell about it. Chill. . .

No one can deny that this little barn cabin has great appeal. It would have even more appeal if the owner had been more attentive to the details. Cupboard doors look dirty, wood trim was missing by the counter and the wood doors look neglected even though they are fun and appealing to look at from afar. The location certainly is fabulous. What great potential this retreat has if some of the details could be taken care of. Rustic can be nice but it can also be disappointing if the rustic looks more like neglect. I’m not saying it has to be perfect but if I’m paying to stay somewhere, I want it to look like someone had my comfort and relaxation in mind and even a hint of luxury. I’m also guessing that because these photos were meant to be public and an advertisement they thought they had made an effort to make it look nice. Honestly, I am not wanting to be harsh but to give some advice that will attract more positive attention with a little more effort is my goal. I’m sure it will be wonderful in the future! I wish them good success!

To me, this kind of looks like one of those Home Depot sheds that was converted into a living space. It’s cute, but seems a bit dated. The furniture and stove look old, but not in a charming way. Also, I don’t know if it’s the way the photo was taken, but I don’t see how someone could get into the bed with the ladder almost touching the ceiling.

This is cute but not for me. Outside bathroom and shower. Not to live in it but would go for a few nights. Kitchen is cool and cupboards look like they hold some stuff. Surroundings is beautiful.
