definitely has nothing to do with a bungalow……..but ok.

Well, bungalow is a pretty generic term that covers a wide variety of small houses or cottages. In England and the states they have just traditionally been either single-storey or has a second storey, or loft, built into a sloping roof that’s usually with dormer windows, and may be surrounded by wide verandas but can also be a patio or deck.

However, those aren’t the only style in the world and there’s at least 12 different common styles and a few less common… The term bungalow was derived from the Gujarati bangalo (meaning “Bengali”) and used elliptically to mean “a house in the Bengal style”, and their architecture does include curved and domed roofs… and you can see some dome structures called bungalows in other countries, like Vietnam, for example…

Besides, it’s often associated with a small vacation home and thus the term is often linked to how the structure will be used as well as where it’s located and while domed houses may not be very traditional they can still have the other elements like dormers, etc.

But, of course, with anything generically used, opinions will vary…

Bungalows only have one level – according to the dictionary and in architecture. So I agree, that this is not a bungalow.

Sorry but no, Bungalows do not exclude attic and lofts!

          The definition is quote:

“A bungalow is a style of house or cottage that is typically either a single story or has a second, half, or partial story, that is built into a sloped roof.”

So attics, lofts, etc can be included too and it’s not limited to just single level designs…

Most definition state “either,” “usually,” “also,” or “generally,” which all means there are also other designs and if you read up on the architecture and history you’ll find there are many different designs all called Bungalows!

Again, opinions will vary but this does not violate the definition!

Not crazy about the indoor pink. Mainly because it is a cool pink, which does not add any warmth to the otherwise “cold” colours of the walls and floors. It looks sterile. And I think the Egyptian tourist paintings look out of place – stop calling them ancient art – they are not. They are simply copies made for tourists.

That’s not how it works, most art people put on their walls are copies but that doesn’t change what the art itself is called… Ancient art is ancient art, no matter whether it’s the original or a copy of it because that is what the art itself is called… There’s only the distinction of “original” from a copy but most people understand that as a given…

Just like calling a house a Victorian or Craftsman style even though it wasn’t built in the same time period.

The copy doesn’t have to be from the same time period as the original, only either be based or represent the original in how or what made it unique enough to be given its own name…

It’s a lot of trouble to make living spaces in a dome. Lots of angles, which take a bit more time to figure and cut, and then you end up with rooms where standard furniture fits awkwardly. Windows are a challenge. I wonder why the builders chose the dome. Perhaps because it will hold up better in a storm? Or just for fun? They did a pretty good job with this, but I’m not inclined to stay there. The matching pink cookware is cool!

I think it’s a just for fun kind of thing, haha! I love yurts even though they are not really practical.

I think it looks smaller than it is. Anybody else notice/think that when looking at it?

    • James D.
      August 28, 2021, 11:50 pm

Yes, people often say the same thing about Yurts, etc. Interior volume of circular or domed structures can be more than it is perceived to be from the outside… I’m sure more than a few would be surprised this is 1400 Sq Ft, with a 2000 Sq Ft deck…

For the most part it is ok, can live with the pink except maybe the backsplash in the kitchen. The big problems is no closets means no to the house!

      August 28, 2021, 11:37 pm

Well, consider that it’s an AirBNB. So it’s set up for people to stay usually just a night or two and has to be easy to clean up and set up for the next guest… However, there is multiple dressers and open closets for hanging cloths in each bedroom…

Room enough that if you prefer enclosed closets, a Armoire, Wardrobe, portable closets, etc. can be drop in replacements for much of that then to set it up for longer stays…

It’s 1400 Sq Ft altogether, so there’s room for some flexibility and there’s plenty of options that don’t have to be built in…

I’m an avid reader/viewer of these “tiny” postings & find it interesting how people get into p**ing contests over silly issues or “labels”. The pictures tell you what it looks like regardless of what your personal interpretation happens to be. I think the owners created a unique little rental. I do not find it cold at all.

I think this little place is very cute. But where is the refrigerator? I didn’t see one in the pictures!

It’s right in the kitchen, look all the way to the left side of the second photo… the metal door is partly reflecting the kitchen cabinet next to it…

I think most people use the term bungalow when talking about a small cute residence but most people in, say, California, think of the Arts and Crafts movement and that style of bungalow is very distinctive. It is a style most sought after and much loved. All the jibber jabber about the technicalities is just silliness, though. Who cares? It’s a cute little bungalow and even though I am not a fan of the pink, it is cleverly done. I mean, pink pots and pans? Wow! Love the deck! All of that is perfect for the area…beach communities are always more adventurous with colors and styles…and to give someone someplace unique to visit on holiday, for sure! If I built one to live in, I would choose one that was a bit larger and sans the pink. Personal preference only. 😉
