Lots and Parking for Tiny Homes

Ever since I found out about tiny houses on wheels I wanted one badly. I’ll tell you why in a minute, but one of my first concerns was lots and parking for tiny homes. If I build one or buy one, where the heck would I park and live in it?

You see, the thing about little houses is, they’re not allowed in most populated areas because of minimum housing standards. That’s why building stick-built tiny homes on trailers has become so popular. If you’re going off-grid or rural though.. you can probably build on a foundation. More on this below.

If you’re like me, some of the reasons you want to own your own tiny house are:

  • to save money,
  • spend less time cleaning,
  • own a home mortgage-free,
  • stop getting into debt,
  • refuse to be a slave to banks,
  • and use all of your leftover resources to fund your dreams.

So let me give you some ideas on where to find a spot to park and live in a tiny house on wheels.

Lots for Parking and Living in Tiny Houses

So far I’ve written two posts to help with this topic. The first is titled: How to Find Parking for Your Tiny House and the second was when I put together a Video: How to Find a Lot to Park and Live in Your Tiny House. I think you’ll find both helpful but I’ll also summarize on this page for you.

Ideas to Find Lots to Rent, Lease or Buy Parking for Tiny Homes

  • Farms
  • Backyards
  • RV Parks
  • Park Model Communities
  • Rural lots
  • Off-grid land
  • Vacant lots
That’s great. But what if you don’t want to do all the searching? That’s where WANTED ads come in. You put yourself out there and have land owners contact you.

Example Ad to Generate Leads for Lots

WANTED: Your land so I can park and live quietly in my custom-built RV that looks like a gorgeous tiny house/cottage. Willing to pay $XXX/mo. Call 555-555-555.

Use Craigslist and your local newspaper to create connections with landowners who might be willing to rent or lease their land to you. It’s a win-win situation because they get to generate some extra reliable income. Including a photo will also help even if you haven’t finished your house yet. Include a picture of what it’s going to look like when you’re done.

In addition, you should still make connections, tell your friends about what you’re looking for along with other people you encounter on a regular basis. They may be the ones who know somebody who know somebody that has the perfect spot for you.
