While we mostly talk about tiny homes here in terms of a living or vacation space, that’s not all they can be! This innovative group had the great idea to create a mobile art studio in a tiny home, so they could easily bring art to those who might otherwise not have access (or might not go to a traditional art installation).

Here’s what they plan on doing with the ArtHaus:

  • Education through workshops, school visits, artist lectures, and emerging artist shows
  • Public art exposure via a mobile ‘art center,’ bringing the art to where the community is
  • Community engagement through tailored interactions between those making and participating
  • support and space for artists working in Cheyenne and Wyoming

What do you think of this idea?

When dealing with a compact space, finding ways to hide your stuff is of utmost importance. While open-concept shelving has really taken off lately, Mark Langen shows how creative hidden storage can allow for clean lines while still keeping the space visually open.

This apartment hides a shower behind a wall, spices and jars in the backsplash, and a mini bar in the most unpredictable spot. Oh, and there’s even office space in the super-neat table! Let us know what you think.

Miguel and his family all live in a number of homes on the family’s property in Spain. He wanted to do something to preserve the cistern that the main house used to draw water from, but it had been a storage room for years. With the help of his architect nephew, Alejandro Valdivieso, they designed a remarkable structure that pays homage to the cistern’s past.

The bedroom and bathroom are tucked underground in the original concrete cistern, while above-the-ground, they created a pre-fab structure that curves in line with the old well and patio. While not tiny by any means, this re-use of existing space (instead of destroying the past) is a great step toward sustainability.

Michelle got in touch with us wanting to show off her bold and beautiful apartment style. Many of us are still working remotely due to the pandemic, and just because you live in a tiny apartment rather than a “tiny house,” doesn’t mean you can’t make your apartment your own.

She describes her style as a blend of old Cornish cottage style, Japanese style, Latin style, and Scandinavian style. The result is a totally unique and cozy home. Michelle hopes sharing pictures of her space will inspire you to make the most of your apartment, too!

Check out the photo tour below.

Tiny House Talk has been around since 2010, and during that time we’ve interviewed a lot of tiny house dwellers who have many reasons for going tiny.

While most people immediately assume tiny living is about reducing costs, that’s not the case for everyone who chooses this lifestyle. Some people go tiny because they’re stressed out by belongings; others want to travel more; some want to live more sustainable lifestyles; and some just want to be different, just to be different!

We thought it would be fun to make a compilation post of many of the answers we’ve gotten to “Why did you choose to go tiny?” Below you’ll find 27 quotes, along with links to our full interviews with these tiny home dwellers. Enjoy, and let us know why you’ve gone tiny in the comments!

Marie and Ben met while backpacking in Costa Rica, and somewhere along the way fell in love, Ben says. After living with the bare minimum for months on end during their adventures, renovating an old school bus and living tiny didn’t seem so far-fetched.

So now they’re the proud owners of Gus (@littlegusthebus), their teal and white renovated school bus that currently lives on a large farm property in Canada. The couple is taking a leap of faith trying to launch a wood-working business from the workshop/barn on the property.

The interior of this traveling home is coated in cream and dark wood and features the most adorable tiny wood-burning stove. While the couple is having a tough time sans-shower during COVID-19 (the gyms are all closed!), they are making the most of this quiet time. Check out the pictures of their bus below, and read our interview with the couple after the pictures.
