Oasis Tiny Home With Dome Window

This post contains affiliate links.

A woman in Maui commissioned Paradise Tiny Houses to build her a custom Oasis model complete with quartz countertops, a bathtub with a custom dome window, and an awesome fully-functional kitchen with an under-mount sink.

This will be her primary residence, and wow would I love to live in this beautiful build! By far the coolest feature of her home is the giant round picture window where they placed a dining area. It really allows you to feel like you’re eating outdoors and brings in tons of natural light.

Enjoy the photo tour of this gem below, and get in touch with the builder for your own Oasis (starts at $189K) here.

Could I live here? The question is could you pry me loose? This is the prettiest thing I have ever seen. Every inch of it is so elegant and yet it seems so liveable and inviting. I don’t think I have any words to describe how lovely and amazing this place is, and I am a certified English teacher. Lol! The rounded windows, tubs, and surfaces make this home flow together like a beautuiful waterfall with cascading flowers along its length. That’s the feel I get when I view the pictures. I can’t imagine actually walking around in it and feeling the ambience. I knew from just the exterior picture that the inside was going to be spectacular, and I was not disappointed. Thanks for sharing this jewel with us.

Could I live here? The question is could you pry me in? OMG I’d do myself an injury. But then I’m pushing 70.

Man, you had me at huge round window! Of course the rest of it is wonderful, too. It is rare that one sees this level of creativity in any house let alone a tiny home. Two words: Holy Moly! Truly impressive! I hope that other designers will be as inspired as the rest of us!

This is a bit taller than most THOWs at 14′, most are limited to 13′ 6″ or less, but it would need to be over 16′ to actually give the loft standing height and be a 2 story structure… Though, may be able to walk while bent over or crouched down a bit… Otherwise, the loft would need to be set lower to give that headroom to the loft but that would take away from the space below it and means you have to work out a way to put a non-standing space below the loft and have that still work for your daily usage of the main living space…

Can be done with custom builders like this but have to consider the trade offs…

Seriously $189.000? I don’t care where it is, I’m in Hawaii and my tiny didn’t cost anywhere near that. My whole property wouldn’t sell for that much and I have a very nice place. Its gorgeous but for that price I could have at least an acre with a nice home on it.

Well, yes and no as that really depends where… The median home value in Hawaii is $672,429. In fact, more than 82% of homes there are priced at $357,218 or more.

It does vary, in Waipahu, homes have a median value of $720,048 but in Hilo it falls to $363,712 and then back up again in Kailua to $1,030,215… While the average rent in Hawaii is a whopping $2,413 a month and you’ll see similar variations by location… There are places where just an empty lot will cost you more than this home, and others where you can get a complete home and property for less, among a list of other differences you can encounter.

So it’s great if this doesn’t effect you, if it’s an option everyone should find a better price and that should be an automatic given in most cases, but the issue is there’s a lot of people it would effect and the option of moving to areas like you’re in may not be a option for the majority of them and that means they have to deal with what options they have in their area…

However, it doesn’t stop there as the house itself is also a factor because houses are not all built the same, they don’t all offer the same features, levels of comfort, quality of materials, durability, easy to hard maintenance, etc. So the cost of the home itself can vary a lot too, just like anything else.

Houses can be built from flimsy money pits that won’t last to homes so overbuilt they will last for centuries, among a long list of possible difference for each and every one…

Wide price ranges were never limited to cars, phones, boats, etc. Even a simple 5.1 stereo system can go all the way up to the most expensive system in the world being around $5 million… The most expensive couch is over $500,000… Nothing is really just one set price range for everything as long as they can be done differently because then it entirely depends how they’re done and how much is actually put into them and ultimately, it depends what people want to get out of the product to what they will be willing to pay to get it and that range goes well beyond just the bare minimums…

People pay for things like art because of the way it makes them feel, how it can inspire them, effect the quality of their life, etc. and thus it isn’t always just about what simply works for everyone and this effects what builders will make for people as homes can encompass many aspects of people’s lives and what they expect to get out of it may not be that simple or the same for everyone.

While it can be surprising what costs the most… Like most people are surprised that windows can go up to very high prices and can cost more than the entire rest of the house once you get to large, high end, custom windows that can cost thousands each and lots of windows adds up quick to tens of thousands… Other times it can be because of who designed it, as architect/designers/engineers can easily add more than 5% to the total cost and sometimes even over 20%. Same reason people pay a premium for cloths from a fashion designer vs what they can get off the rack from a thrift store… Or you went to a complete custom builder, which is the most expensive way to build anything. It gives you absolute control over what you get and you can have the builder pay attention to even the smallest of details to have it exactly how you want it and/or make changes as you go if you change your mind but that comes at a very premium cost as the trade off… A lot then depends on choices made…

This is why so many things are generic, one size fits all, mass produced products because that’s the cheapest way to make things. You give up controlling what you get, limiting your choices, but costs can then go down to even a fraction of what the custom build would have cost you and can even be cheaper than a DIY, which isn’t always the cheapest option but is the cheapest way to do that can still be custom and not have skyrocketing prices.

Like take furniture, you can get complete furniture from a store like Ikea that mass produces them for less than just the hardware will cost a custom furniture maker, before adding cost of materials, labor, etc. You’re just not going to get a piece of furniture that may end up a family heirloom like you can from a custom furniture maker that can make a piece of furniture that’s not only functional but can have more meaning for you and/or your family, etc. There are always trade offs and reasons people don’t all make the same choices.

Just to be clear where this home stands, this is a designer custom built home, they credit Dan Madsen & Ellie K. for the Design, and they’re catering to high cost areas in not only Hawaii but the West Coast ports of California, Oregon, and Washington where housing prices are also generally very high… So it simply isn’t a product that was ever meant to be the lowest cost possible but rather for people who demand a higher end product…

So be very careful of location, how it’s built and specifically with whether or not you want it custom, and if possible stay away from designer homes to really keep away from the higher price ranges because those will cater to the much higher price ranges and even at this price range it’s actually nowhere near the highest they can go as there are designer custom builders that will do homes and other products right up into the millions or even hundreds of millions… It just depends what their clients want and are willing to pay to get…

Just the reality of the market, it’s all about supply and demand, but that can range far beyond what most of us are looking for… So, to be clear, I’m absolutely not suggesting you should buy this but just explaining where it stands and that it’s just something to be aware of for what market the builder caters to as to whether they make anything you’d be interested in or not as ultimately, it’s the consumers that determine what gets built but we’re not all looking for the same things or working with the same budgets… Just like ultra expensive cars, boats, etc. Some things are just nice to look at but aren’t for most of us, but may inspire ideas that we can do on our own or find a cheaper way to do it…

Ultimately, this site is about discussing ideas and concepts. So we can look at everything, just be aware that not everything is meant for the same market as we may be interested in… But that doesn’t mean we can’t figure out a cheaper way to do it either… Thus we talk…

Apologies if that was too long a reply, being pithy tends to be a problem for me but I hope that helps put this in perspective…

Um…not to be a negative Nellie but where is the rest of the bathroom? I mean, the tub is great and all, but to leave the door open between the kitchen and bathroom? Where is the commode?

It’s right to the right of the tub, flush toilet, when looking into the bathroom… Sink is opposite it on the other side… So it’s all there…
