While tiny-house-on-wheels-shells have been around for a long time, the NIDUS concept of a modular foundation home shell is something new — and it’s a great way to save money on housing since you DIY the entire interior of the home. These shells are built in modular pieces that are then transported and assembled on-site.
Their “Dove” model is a true tiny home at only 230 square feet, and it starts at just $17,500 for the shell. Plumbing, electrical, and all interior finishes are left up to the buyer after the house assembly. Right now these are only available in Europe, but I think it’d be great if this concept caught on! You could buy a local shed or build one for 50% less. But for newbies it might be worth it.
No, that wouldn’t be equivalent…
Article is slightly confusing. Under the Package highlights, “transportation and assembly (price depends on location)”, then under Not Included it shows transportation and assembly. Does that mean they can do some transport and assembly in their area? It is not unusual for a company to offer delivery and set-up within a specified radius of miles.
Compared with prebuilt sheds, the package does include means to run your electrical and plumbing and offer some idea for location of kitchen and bath. It is up to the DIY to decide the interior design, floorplan and contents of finish work. Adding the insulation alone can be pricey. One needs to compare personal ideas with the package deal to see which is better financially.
They’re only referring to the starting from price and what it includes. Transport and Assembly are actually part of what they offer and will be added to the starting from price at the time of the order, once they know where it will be going and thus how much it will actually cost. Unless you choose to arrange the transport and/or assembly yourself, which is also an option.
They have a PDF brochure you can look at on their site for more details… Price is in Euro’s but easy enough to convert to USD… €17,500 = $17,662.92, for example.
Very true. In the case of me building it, it’ll be a lot better not only a better shell but better bath, kitchen, 10′ wide open plan with solar, battery for 60% of the shell price.
Did I miss something? On the build at the first, now windows? The lack of, or possible on one side only, windows, would drive me crazy! Artificial light is no substitute for the real thing. Perhaps the owner doesn’t live in, but vacations only in the home, and therefore hopes to reduce the chance of breakins while he is away? Any way, the place is gorgeous otherwise! Love it all. From the layout inside, to the design for outside. Big thumbs up!
Options like windows are up to the owner and the layout they decide upon. The photos are renderings, just to get an idea but you can see some of the actual buildings in the videos… There’s more videos available but not in English…
Are the transport costs from *Romania*? (Corp HQ)
If so, that really should be highlighted.
