This is the New Frontier Tiny House that literally runs on Dunkin’. Yes, New Frontier Tiny Homes and Blue Marble Energy partnered with Dunkin’ Donuts to design and build a tiny house that is powered by a biofuel blend made using 80% used Dunkin’ Donuts coffee grounds.2 That’s pretty awesome, right? Can you imagine something like this being used widely? That would be incredible!
Blue Marble Biomaterials helped develop the fuel and New Frontier created the electrical system that optimized the home. Every appliance and feature found in a full size home is in this unit.1

New Frontier Tiny House on Wheels That’s Powered By Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Grounds
Every 170 pounds of spent coffee grounds yields about one gallon of fuel and is used in a standard biofuel generator.2

How It Works In a Nutshell
What they did, is Blue Marble Biomaterials figured out a way to generate power from the used coffee grinds, it’s explained in better detail here, but it’s done using a blend of biofuel using oil that comes from 80% coffee grinds.2 From there, they were able to fuel a generator using the fuel created using these grinds. And New Frontier Tiny Homes designed and built a tiny house on wheels with an optimized electrical system that runs on Dunkin’!
I’m starting to wish my house ran on Dunkin’, how about you?

I’m impressed with Dunkin’ Donuts re: this project. Nice house, too. I like the elevated dining area, which could also be a flexible work area, art area, etc.
Me too! The design is very impressive, sleeps up to six people, has two bedrooms (including King Master), a walk-in closet, chef’s kitchen, and more…it’s the Escher by New Frontier Tiny Homes. You can see it in a couple of our posts from the past below:

Ah, I recall that house. They put the bedroom in that dining area. Really flexible set up. You could also make that the living area. I’d lean toward putting a nice reading chair up there with a round table in the center. So many uses. Very cool layout. On another note–I had no idea you could convert coffee grounds into fuel. I’m assuming there is probably no smell once it’s converted into fuel but I don’t lean toward technical knowledge. 🙂
WOW this is just GREAT!! wonderful , I would love to know more about it and also I hope that you will bring this house to Vermont so I could see it first hand ! thank you sincerely Deb bushee ps i am building my own tiny right now
Hi Deb in Vermont! Congrats on starting to build your own tiny house. Hope we can learn more about it soon!
just wondering if there is a coffee aroma to the fuel!
Likely a bad smell too. I use to work next to a coffee producer and the smell is very strong, enough to make me sick.
Not sure if it would have a coffee smell because I think it’s a processed biofuel fused with some sort of alcohol, but maybe it does, I don’t really know, that’s a good question!
I love that this is powered by used coffee grounds, but the exterior is pretty drab and downright ugly. The interior looks pretty good, if you can get past the outside.
Well, I’m glad you liked the inside, Lisa!
Wow! Now all they need is a doghouse powered by donuts!
Seriously (well) doesn’t powering your house on coffee grounds cause sleeplessness?
LOL!
Does this tiny house travel around the country? Is there a schedule of locations?
It was only available October 16-30 of last year (2018), and for a short while it was also available on Airbnb as a vacation rental, but at the moment, it’s not available. Maybe a Dunkin’ Donuts executive is enjoying living in it somewhere with an impressive view…
