Mom & Uncle Build THOW for This Teen’s College Dorm

This post contains affiliate links.

With the help of her brother, Holly built her daughter, Tilly, a tiny home to act as her college dorm! The pandemic made Holly and Tilly realize how little of their huge home they actually used, and Tilly had a lot of anxiety about what her future was going to look like.

That’s when they came up with a plan: Sell the big house, purchase Indigo River Tiny House plans, DIY their own awesome build, move to Colorado (where Tilly wants to go to college) and get the benefits of in-state tuition when the time comes!

Tilly gets the home as long as she needs it, providing that once she has a post-college career that she pays back her mom for the build so her mom has some retirement funds. In the meantime, Holly and her partner purchased an RV and they plan to travel the US while working remotely.

They Built This THOW from Indigo River Plans!

They chose a blend of metal siding for the exterior.

This is the couch, which turns into a bed when needed.

Tilly can stand in her loft! Love her tapestry above the bed.

She really wanted a full-sized tub — and they fit it!

I really like your set up. Plus, your planning makes a lot of sense to me. I love that you built your stairs with your air fryer built in. Very logical, especially for someone who doesn’t bake. Add in the ability to stand in your room!! That’s the best design I have seen so far for a loft area. Great job mom and uncle. Tilly, your design choices are super cute. I, too, don’t like so much white and during the winter the colors will be very homey feeling.

Too much white can be so sterile!

Note how the short stairs and stand up loft work as this is about the only decent sleeping loft I’ve seen
in THs. This makes it easier to go pee in the middle of the night without having to fully wake up and not be dangerous like most lofts.
Putting a 5′ high ceiling dinette like this above or below a bed works too.
Excellent job. They should think about building them for money traveling from place to place. $20k profit for a month’s work isn’t bad pay for 2. Doing 2-4/yr can be a good living.

Yes I love the loft style — it really worked! And allowed for those great wardrobes for clothing.

I loved this wonderful tiny home — nothing missing that I could wish for. Everything well planned out for anyone. The personal decor was great! Only thing I would add is a larger flat screen TV — the larger the better if viewing from a distance.
