Mercedes Unimog Expedition Camper

This new adventurer camper by Mercedes Benz is the ultimate in off road recreational vehicles. The portal axles give it plenty of ground clearance, making sure that all four wheels have contact to the road (whatever the road may be!). The axle is able to flex over 30 degrees. This vehicle can effortlessly take on just about anything in its path (within reason).

The air intake pipe makes it ready for traveling through reasonable depths of water. It also has a built in system to change any of your tires’ air pressure right from the driver’s seat. This is used to improve traction on different terrains. In addition, the Unimog packs a 7 ton front winch to get itself (most likely others) out of any trouble. Surprisingly for me it has a 4 cylinder 4249-cc diesel engine that produces 218 horse power. Maybe this engine results in decent gas mileage but even if it doesn’t, it comes with a 76 gallon fuel tank (plus a 5 gallon reserve) to ease worries.

The Mercedes Unimog has been THE standard in military trucks when you have to get people, gear, and supplies into places where roads are either more an idea or a figment of someones imagination. It's nice to see that some bright engineering type saw a potential and made it so but, WOW, or perhaps, GASP would be better after visiting the article and reading the price. Lot's of used Unimogs in this country though and a little skull sweat and a lot of the real thing can make a reasonable copy of the new one. Those little diesel motors are virtually indestructible and can be rebuilt as needed.
