Man’s Handmade Gypsy Wagon Micro Cabin

I’m excited to show you this man’s handmade gypsy wagon micro cabin.

It’s about 6′ wide and 10′ long and the owner/builder, Russ, considers it a really nice bedroom on wheels because it has no bathroom or kitchen.

Russ invested over 200 man hours hand crafting and custom building it all from scratch. It has lots of beautiful detail, built-in storage, and even a gorgeous wood sink!

As a Carpenter’s daughter, I can really appreciate that this guy is a REAL ARTIST~~!!!! What a great woodworker~~!!!! He has taken the time to create a work of Art,,,, nice lay out,, put in a small porta potty, with closing lid, cushion on top and he has it all! Nice Gypsy trailer! Jan (for now fella, your girl can sleep on top of you!). Smile.

Expand on this – make it longer and a bit taller, put in a DECENT BATHROOM (not just an *ugh* porta potty), and this would get snapped up in a second. Part of the appeal of tiny homes is their charm – and yet so many look like shipping crates with windows. This is great-looking – but sadly, not very practical.

This is gorgeous and I hope this artist will make more of these in the future. This build is a 6′ x 10′; a standard “vardo” (aka Gypsy living wagon) is 6′ x 10′ so the second edition of this could add another two feet which would allow for a toilet (and possibly a wet bath).

This is a beautiful build with all the ambience anyone could ever hope for. I agree with Sparrow, so many tiny houses look like boxes with windows, but this is fabulous. If I could have this in a 20′ 0r 24′ build with full bath and kitchen, I’d be very satisfied that I had something VERY special to last me a lifetme. Good luck! 😀

You know there is already enough space for a little kitchen area but can’t seem to work in a bathroom area:) Very nice interior and adorable ourside as well. Thanks for sharing.

The outside is nice, but the interior work is great. Room for a sink, but can’t come up with enough counter space for a stove? And what about heat? Surely there is space under the bed for a porta-potty or compost toilet, that is a basic necessity. Washup can be done with a cloth, but no toilet? I just can’t see a real use for what is basically a moveable bedroom. Lovely work, but poorly thought out, might as well just have a van and sleep in it.

This is so great. I actually don’t mind the lack of bathroom/full kitchen. This would be perfect for a weekend of camping off grid. Really nice to see artistry and craftsmanship in all the little details.

Love your vardo and ALLLLLL the woodcraft. For camping, I don’t see why you couldn’t carry a portable tent for showering and potty needs.
You could hook up a tankless shower to your existing water system.
    Anyway, beautiful job.

You could have one of those circular curtain rod that attaches to the outside wall and the shower head could already be installed on the wall. Have a Nature’s Head compost toilet to keep behind the curtain. Those are lightweight.

Gypsy wagons don’t have loo’s or bathrooms, they consider it dirty. Not unusual to cook outside too

But it’s too pretty small and elegant , special, charming.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again, Russ is a truly talented craftsman. If anyone truly knows me, they will know that I am a lover of Vardos, or for those of you who do not know what a vardo is, a gypsy wagon.. I have long given up on the idea that I would be able to get my hands on one, or at least one that is truly a vardo, and built to what was once done only buy craftsman such as Russ.. If it is ever to happen, it will only happen by my own doing, and or by my own hand and sticking to original craftsmanship and ways of building a Vardo or Gypsy Wagon….! Again great work Russ….!

Are plans available for this style of Vardos. I like this shape compare to the rounder ones. I also like the suggestion of making a longer version with a THOW in mind.

I know that tiny house has a set for a short version, in which you can elongate the middle, but then it would be up to you, and how far you want to take the design… From there you can pretty much do the same as Russ and build to suit your needs…. I would also do some research on the net maybe google up a few Vardos to get an idea of it’s original design and there is one that is called a Showman’s trailer that was based off of the Vardos original design… The Showman is a popular design, and I once heard it called the great grand daddy of the now travel trailer… But the true Romany Vardo was simple as far as means inside, and then over time evolved , so I guess by all means it is the great grandfather of the travel trailer…. Basically it’s up to you and what you want it to be… Good Luck…! And I for one would love to see your design when you get it to building it..

I just came across this company. They make a modern version of the Idaho Sheep Wagon which can be pulled on freeways. The trailers have a bench type build on both sides much like this Vardo. One could buy one of their custom trailers and start from there.
