Man Living in an Underground Home on $5k/Year

This post contains affiliate links.

This is the story of a man who is living in an underground home on only $5,000 a year. The roof is covered in moss and pine needles while the outside wall of the home is built using large stones. A tiny wooden door leads you inside.

Once inside, you’ll find the walls and low ceilings are covered in wood paneling and the floor is covered with carpeting. The bedroom is on the other side of the home which you can access by crawling through a circular hole. Using a separate entrance, you can access the bathroom which has a composting toilet, a shower, and there’s even a pine wood sauna.

This man to me is the absolute smartest man in the world with the best place ever. Thanks Alex & the Smartest man in the world for sharing!

It’s my favorite and wish it could be done everywhere but because the modern men and women feel they need to govern everyone and place codes and rules we destroy the spirit and love of the free people!

This gentleman has done the best I’ve ever seen in my lifetime and wish him the best!

    Mac Out!

Thank you so much for posting this! I recommend people watch the video. It’s rare that you run across someone who has been able to live a majority of their live as they truly want to. There is a lot of wisdom in this mans thinking & I enjoyed the entire 34 minutes of the video.

Wow, the video was great and I have to agree with him, the chasing dollars, working for abusive companies to acquire more stuff that weighs you down and one day causes heart palpitations is my idea of insanity. How did we get to this point? The freedom that comes from getting rid of possessions and simplifying is incredible. I want taller walls (fake knee that doesn’t bend well); but the lifestyle really appeals to me. Thank you for sharing with us.

This is a little cozy, a little scary and very private! I wonder if I could do this.

Wow! What a beautiful life view. What a special person. Imagine if we all created our life on our own terms like he has.

I have to admit that this is the type of tiny house that I always invisage for myself after watching Grand Designs showing several homes in this style. I would need higher ceilings though as kneeling isn’t an option and once down on the floor I am there to stay. This t me is the real tiny simple lifestyle but government in general disagree.

Love the idea. Id pack up,sell what I have and build something like this if I could. Well,I could but not legally and would risk the chance of being evicted, the structure being demolished and losing everything. Although we kid ourselves we live in the free world,we don’t really. Rules, regulations and the thing governments are really more concerned about,TAXES,put pay to living like this. Rules, regs and control are getting tighter and tighter in Europe. I’ve looked at buying a tiny plot of land many times here in France, but you cannot legally live on it. Unless its a plot that has been designated for a possible build. And then not without paying taxes, submitting plans, agreeing to building controls et etc. Everything is governed and restricted and controlled.

This is absolutely amazing how he can live like that ! I have to admit I am a bit envious, Love this and his philosophy! Maybe this is why I enjoy my small truck camper so much and being out in it . Less is better and you learn to appeciate what you have and what is around you . I told a friend once you spend half your life collecting stuff and the next half getting rid of stuff
