Man Builds DIY U-Haul Box Truck Tiny House with Slide Outs

This is the story of how one man is building his own DIY U-Haul Box Truck Tiny House with custom slide outs.

There definitely aren’t many projects like this out there so it’s one of the most creative although it does remind me of this amazing transforming castle house truck we featured a few months back. And best of all, this project isn’t even finished yet, so it’s only going to get better and better. But for now, you can take a look at what it’s like while it’s still in the works. And stay tuned as we’ll definitely update you as soon as it’s finished. For now please enjoy and re-share below. Thank you!

As I have commenting earlier slide out are used in tiny houses now to expand the legal standard width of 102″ when parked.
This one looks a little bit rustic but it is full of great ideas to save on time and money when building.
It shows how simple slide out can be achieved. I like to fold up spacious porch at rear with the Dutch/French door and the off grid capability. Placing the kitchen area en suite to it makes a great outdoor living.
Skylight is nice but not so convenient under the FL sun. However, cross ventilation is important and a pop up roof with portholes at sides will do it. Beside that it helps to keep the overall height low.
Sleeping areas are looking a little bit cramped and that’s why aren’t for me. I would prefer more air above my bed.
But overall a great layout and the four slides provide plenty of additional space.
    Well done.

This build is the very essence if DIY – completely individual, a little rough around the edges, with the odd flash of genius.

I really like the separate sleeping lofts. So many couples have different schedules or sleeping habits that it’s just practical to have separate beds (I’m too much of an insomniac to have romantic notions about sharing a bed).

This is an interesting concept and I do like the porch — He has made great us of the space he has to work with. I do not care for the bedroom area for the same reason that has been prevously mentioned, much to much claustrophobia. The slide outs are a great concept in the way he has done them. I have to say two things about them, first I think I would have used 2×2’s to frame them, to cut down on the weight thereby making them easier to pull in and out — these are not weight bearing walls and RV slides are 2×2 construction — you do need a good bulkhead however. I think I would have also made at least the one a long single slide. There are hydraulic systems on the market or for that matter you might be able to find one in a wrecking/parts yard from a trailer that has been totaled, but not the slide hydraulics. I like the large back door concept and what a great idea to use for a herb garden! There are certainly some great ideas in this build and I for one would definitly like to see the finshed product. A great job and kudos to you for being so creative and making your small house happen. By-the-by, I also like your use of solar — Way to go!

This re-invigorates our hope in humanity! One individual with imagination and capable hands and not enough book-learning to know it can’t be done because, well, somebody said so!

Who cares if it is funky and quirky and too heavy and top-heavy and just plain odd! It will evolve in use. Just the doing of this rig brought smiles and nods and appreciative laughter as each of us around the office pointed out favorites during the video. Ingenuity like this is much-needed in a time of fear and withdrawal. Thank you!

Thumbs up to the PV designers for placing the charge-controller next to the batteries, near the end of the wiring-run from the panels. For batteries, we prefer pairs of big sixes instead of a twelve or two, but in our experience, experience trumps theory ten for ten. Hands-on learning

And thumbs WAY UP for the life-size alien/Tiki gods on the back-porch roof ladder-supports! Delightfully unhinged all around! Dude, we have an opening for you in our neighborhood!

I would prefer you not show videos that are advertisements for religious nuttery. A sponsorship is one thing, but really, I don’t need to see that stuff while looking at houses. You might consider making that a firm request. A secular version of the video would be welcome without proselytization. Thank you.
