Man Builds Cozy and Sustainable Tiny Home Made of Earth

Nestled within nature in Northern Arizona is this sustainable tiny home made of Earth owned and built by Cody Lundin.

You may recognize him from various television interviews and magazines. As a professional survivalist for over 25 years, Cody built his own self-reliant earth house which, by the way, is completely off the grid.

One of the main goals, when Cody was designing and building his tiny home was to ensure the interior temperature remains habitable at all times, no matter how hot or cold it may be outside. So the stone floors absorb the natural sunlight throughout the day to help keep the home warm at night. This is especially important during the winter. Cody also utilizes solar power to run his computer, microwave, washing machine, and any other electronics. Please enjoy, learn more and re-share below. Thank you!

Some things of note, cody no longer lives here, he moved to the ‘burbs. Also it’s made of blown gunite, not entirely earth.

Cody made a beautiful and extremely easily maintained home, this was one of the first eco/small houses I was introduced to and I loved it. I am such a fan of cody, I feel like he really lives and believes in what he preaches. It saddened me to see him leave dual survival but I think it had become too much of a drama show for him rather than allowing him to share his survival skills.

Matt, did Cody sell the home? Is it currently being lived in? I would so love to talk to Cody about possibly renting it or even buying it outright. This is awesome!

I honestly can’t remember, I just know I was reading an article with him when his dual survival departure was going on and he said he had moved out. So sad, not only an impressive home but an incredibly designed water system!

Beautiful, intelligent, practical art. I love it, though I might paint the walls lighter colors.

LOL!! When he got out of the tent, I wanted to do a Tarzan yell.

Yet another livable work of art, if only it wasn’t located in roasting hot Arizona. That’s one of my favorite things about tiny houses, that so many are like living in artistry instead of living surrounded by off white sheetrock walls. I think I could live in a tent more comfortably than in a sheetrock lined apartment. A wood walled tiny house would be even better than tent living. Thanks for tiny house emails as it gives me building ideas nearly every time I look in here.

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

I am curious how he made solar tubes. We are building an earthbag home in Michigan and trying to keep costs down. We need quite a few solar tubes so if I could diy that would be a huge cost savings.
