Micheles Pawsitively Tiny House Update 2019 001 – On the Road

It was sad to rehome my pigs and chickens and leave but I am so very happy now that I did it. I am living legal in a mobile home park surrounded by metro parks on two sides and Lake Erie on the other and very cat friendly. There are 2 other tiny houses here and more to come very soon.

My house is built on a reinforced camper frame, (so I am a legal RV), and I felt it would be safer to move it on a RGN trailer rather than tow it 100 miles. The move was flawless, tho it was stressful following behind your house flying down the highway at 65 mph.

    I love your tiny house.
The way you decorated it is beautiful.
I wish I were good at figuring out how to place things, I live in 447 sq. ft. and don’t feel as though I’m utilizing the space properly.

Hi Michele, I absolutely love your tiny house! I’m not as “lacy” as you are, but I’m definitely one of the “Queens of Shabby Chic”. Your place is just delightful. I’ve pretty much decided to do a van conversion on a Ram PowerMaster box truck that I plan to live in. Your sweet little place has shown me that I can Shabby Chic the truck with some of my favorite things that will really make it feel like home. Thanks for your inspiration. Diane Young

Hi, I love to see tiny houses on wheels. I would like to stay in it one day.

  • October 28, 2019, 7:31 pm

Probably my favorite Tiny house. I feel it is EXACTLY what makes a home a home. True I would extend it to put the bedroom down but keep the decore and style. A little help on the foot traffic stair surfaces maybe is the only major change I can see. Countertops might need a rework as well. So often too much is expected when all you really need is a change of habits to find happiness with the sace you have. A single person using this format to pattern their own hideaway can be very successful be it Boho, Shabby Chic or simply a country cabin recycled look via Tiny Texas Houses. Looking for an example, Start Here.

Beautiful! I love your tiny home and the decorating is perfect. I have been in my tiny home for 14 months now and love it. I live in a beautiful forested area and there is an area here for tiny homes. There are about 40 here now with good sized lots and room for gardening. I am still looking to find some “perfect” items for my home for decorating and you have given me some ideas and inspiration. I cannot imagine living in anything other than a tiny home now. Loving tiny home living!

I’d like to know how they managed to put it on the truck for transporting. Did they take the wheels or the frame off it beforehand. When looking at it the pix of the tiny on the truck it appears those features don’t exist. How did they tie it down. If no wheels, how did they manage to unload it?

    • Michele Wilson
      October 29, 2019, 6:24 pm

      Rhonda,
A RGN trailer drops to the ground in the front, so I had a tow truck company load it and unload it for me. The wheels stayed on, so it could be rolled on and off. It was over legal height so the trucking company just got a permit. Total height of house on trailer was 14′ 2″ . They strapped the frame to the trailer, it was actually very easy.

Hi Michele! Would you please give us an up date since your move to Cleveland. Are you still happy you moved, did you keep your rural property (just in case), how was the Covid lockdown in your new community, were you able to add a sink when you remodeled your bathroom, were you able to take your front porch with you, where is your hot water heater located, have you added gas logs in your fireplace and what things would you do differently if you were starting your build now? I love your tiny house, one of my top three all time favorites! Thank you for your posts and sharing your talent with us.

    • michele wilson
      July 30, 2021, 7:33 pm

Thank you Teena for your kind comments. I still love living in my tiny house, even thru the lockdown. I did expand by adding a 12 x 20 deck off of the back. I took out the back window and put in a door, so I spent a lot of time outdoors. Living right on Lake Erie is also a plus. I have a tankless hot water heater in the bathroom above the toilet that I built into a cabinet. I still have one sink by choice. My fireplace is electric, keeps me toasty warm. If I had to build again, I would put the entrance on the side rather than the front. Other than that, I would not change a thing. I plan on staying where I am, but my parents are in their 90’s, so I am prepared to move into their large backyard with my house when they need me.

Hi Michele, I love your home! I live in a tiny home (366 sq ft) and have been thinking of adding a door in place of the large window in my bedroom. I plan to stay here forever and because I only have one exit out I need to think about being able to get out in case of fire, etc. Can I ask how difficult it was to replace the window with a door in your home? The window there now is 48″ by 35″ clearly big enough to crawl thru but not an easy task for this 66 year old woman. And of course I will have to have a small deck built too. Thanks for any advice or suggestions you can give me.

    July 31, 2021, 5:18 pm

Nancy, I am 61 and had no problem putting it in. Getting a prehung door will be much easier. My opening was not standard so I had to cut both the frame and door down a few inches. If you need to cut the door, make sure you get a solid wood door. There are so many videos on youtube, anything is possible. I never even use my front door anymore, I am so happy I put it in. Good Luck!

I absolutely LOVE your beautiful tiny home. I love white, pink, lace, roses, worn furniture and Shabby Chic styling. You nailed your home design on every front to MY preferences… lol! Getting my own tiny home or camper to redo and live in is my retirement dream. I’m 67 now…just looking for a layout that works for me with a downstairs bedroom and a long(ish) kitchen counter. I am a soapmaker and need that space to continue my craft. I wish you many more years of happiness and contentment in your swoon worthy home. I already see many things I would like to recreate in my own space. Thank you for sharing your home and leaving me feeling very inspired!

Thank you for your very kind words. I am glad I could inspire you, many people do not like my style but for me it is perfect and fills me with happiness. I do a lot of crafting in my house and having a large outdoor deck helps a lot. I also have a large shed which I keep a lot of tools. Even though it is tiny, I still find space to enjoy doing things. I wish you the same joy in your tiny house that mine has given me.

Dear Michele, I have flagged every article I could find on your tiny home. It is so perfect in every way. I dream of having a similar tiny space such as this. Although I know you have probably sold and moved to help your parents, I am curious to know, what was the square footage of your tiny place? Did you have any zoning issues to consider in putting it down in a more permanent place? As time goes on, more “Granny Pods”, and “Mother-In-Law apartments” are starting to pop up all over, most requiring a permit for “Additional Dwelling Unit-ADU” from local zoning offices, I wondered if you had a difficult time getting everything squared away to live where you did?
I wish you blessing upon blessings in helping your parents, and establishing yet again, a new living place. Thank you for sharing the stuff of dreams for all of us to further dream about and pursue!
    Debra

      Debra,
Thank you for your kind comments. I miss living in my tiny house. I am still trying to make my new house feel like home, but it is not the same. My tiny house was 8.5 x 18 with a 6 x 6 loft. When I lived in the country I moved to a township with no zoning so it was not a problem. When I moved to the city, I moved it to a trailer park. I think the most difficult part of the tiny house movement is finding a place to put it. I suggest to everyone that before you make the decision to buy or build, secure a place to put it first. I have heard of many unhappy endings because of this issue. Good luck with your dreams, where there is a will there is a way.
