What are your name(s)?

Julien Billet

Where are you from?

I’m french but I live in Chilian’s Patagonia.

How did you first become seriously interested in tiny houses?

I always liked little space. During the last 15 years, I live 5 years in a 32ft sailing boat, 6 years in Westfalia VW combi, and 3 years in a tiny fairytale cottage.

What type of tiny house do you have or are you working on?

It is a little off-grid fairy tale cottage.

Why did you go tiny? What are you hoping to get out of it for yourself?

To live more simply and have more time to think about more important things than who will have the biggest house or car. Also, to take care about nature and have more connection with it.

How long did it take you to finish your tiny house?

19 months.

Did you do it yourself? Who helped? How much did it end up costing you to build it?

I did everything by myself and It cost around 30000 us$.

How did you figure out where to put it?

With my wife, first we found the land and we adapted the house to the land to make sure that we’ll have the view of the 2 volcanos around us.

What’s been the most challenging part about going tiny so far?

No challenge for us. We love little space.

What benefits are you experiencing after going tiny?

More time to spend outside in nature.

What helpful piece of advice would you give to others who are interested in going tiny?

Don’t be afraid to live in a little space. You’ll come back to essential things and you will enjoy spending less money in your home!

Do you have a website, blog, or social media pages where we can connect with you and follow along?

soon, I will have my own website but for the moment I have the Airbnb page: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/15851510

Got me with that half round couch… then all the other bits (mostly) fitted in perfectly… almost… but there’s always room for perfection right?

Yes, is ” fairytale” but inside it’s too red, it does not relax.

Au contraire… it is very relaxing. Maybe your subconscious just associates red with danger… maybe.

Delightful! The redness of the interior complements the greenness of the house’s wonderful natural setting. I like the round window over the bed; it reminds of a huge, harvest moon.

It’s Lovely ! ,, my personal preference would be for whitewashed interior & cool neutral decor to create ‘space’ & ‘light’ ,, also some more natural light ,, however they are a matter of personal taste & I think the little place is great ,, love that it’s off grid & immersed in nature ,, would live there in a heartbeat

The colour in this house makes me happy. This little house has a perfect fusion of colour and wood to bring warmth and a welcoming atmosphere. The layout adds interest; in fact everywhere you look there is some visual interest and beauty. This is perfect.

Hi Alex – Thank you – I am. I just got back from Europe and my focus through this winter and coming summer is to finish up the interior of my tiny house and then give you some more content for your site. 🙂 Thank you for always giving me something to look forward to each evening.

really cool, hard to do right, but apparently you did. The photos of your kitchen would help as only a hint from what I could see. I appreciate the thought and effort involved, BRAVO
