Jacqueline’s Life in her Tiny House on Wheels

So far Jacqueline has been living in her tiny house on wheels for several months.

She’s been learning how to transition into the lifestyle by using a composting toilet, changing her grocery shopping habits, cooking in a tiny kitchen, and more.

Jacqueline’s tiny house is about 190 sq. ft. with no loft. She’s living in it with her 4 guinea pigs, her cat, and a chihuahua, all of which were rescued.

She had someone else build her tiny house for her, which cost her about $39,000 (including $3,000 in transportation costs). What she didn’t expect were some hidden costs to get the home settled, stabilized, leveled, and add skirting on the outside. All of these hidden extras she said would probably add up to about $15,000!

Fortunately, Jacqueline is renting land from a friend’s 3-acre property and luckily enough there was already water and electricity available so those setup costs weren’t necessary. Please enjoy, learn more, and re-share below. Thank you!

I really, really like your tiny house. The color scheme is pleasant. The storage capacity is wonderful. Looks like all your animals have great hangouts! Really like all the windows, too. Is your TV attached to the window, I couldn’t figure that out? Thanks for sharing

Not bad, looks like nice woodwork. I like no loft too. I think it was overpriced tho.

What are the dimensions? It looks wider than 8 ft

the exterior dimensions are 11’10 x 18′. i had several things upgraded: 9.6 cu ft refrigerator/freezer, additional windows, 100 amp service, R13 side wall insulation, mini split HVAC,and extra kitchen cabinets. it was built by Parks Model Direct: http://www.parkmodelsdirect.com/RM/pinehaven.asp

i added a C-Head composting toilet which i really love.

it came with the bunk beds, which i later took down and had just one full side bed built with storage room underneath.

after three months of being here, i’m still moving things around. there was a large extra cost for the electric and water hook up – it wasn’t as easy as simply plugging into my friend’s house.

Is it safe to assume that the choice to use a composting toilet instead of hooking to sewer or septic was due to cost? The house seems well built. I would not be able to function well with the tiny bar sink. The guinea pigs take up alot of space. I might have to forgo the pigs just to make room for my 5 dogs. Best luck to the owner.

This house is really cute. I believe the key to tiny house living is to divest oneself from the cult of acquisition. Little by little I am coming to understand that an abundance of possessions is not equal to happiness and contentment. The process of culling what is essential to my life has been liberating. Thank you for providing inspiration with all of these wonderful tiny homes!

Info, please: what is the washing machine? How does it work and where would a person look for them? Thank you.

What an inspiration these tiny home living people are!!! Sharing their home with the world is fantastic and show us that we don’t need all that “stuff”! Would love to hear from you in a year to see if you still love your home as much as you do now!

it works pretty well, by not unattended. i’ve had some problems with the faucet connections. it still beats $20 a week at the laundromat

YES SAM!!! i know TH living is still in the “oh, look, isn’t that cool” stage, but there’s enough of us out there now that i’d love to see a place to talk more openly about those constant battles!! and just because there are tough spots doesn’t mean the cause should be abandoned. i think there’s a greater risk in painting an overly rosie picture, while people end up disappointed and disillusioned. i love my TH – AND there are lots of ongoing challenges!!
