This is a tiny house built out of bricks! It’s quite nice, isn’t it? Being in the United States, it’s actually kind of rare to see something like this… A seemingly new structure that’s, well, pretty small of a house.

How did they build this tiny house legally??
So how did they get away with building such a beautiful and tiny house? Well, in Australia, it’s classified as a Granny Flat for zoning purposes. In other words, it’s kind of like a guest house or an accessory dwelling unit. Pretty interesting, right? That’s one way to build tiny legally in highly populated and regulated areas.

That is great! Very clean looking. Wish we could find some kind of loophole, trying to put a tiny house in Northwest Arkansas is next to impossible.
The way they did it here is with an existing home on the property. So you may be able to do that, and you can rent out the big house to pay most of the mortgage for you. Essentially you could find a home where you are legally allowed to build a guesthouse. You could also set it up as an investment (since it is if you are renting out a home on the property) and you could have your CPA/accountant depreciate the structures on the property. This helps lower your overall costs through tax time. I’ve learned that “depreciation” is a tool of the rich, but we can use it too if we just know about it.
Hi Matt; I wish for you also. My wish is the same for Massachusetts. I am 81 yrs., and would really like this in one of my kids or friends backyard. Maybe someday this will happen all over the states. Smaller inexpensive homes are so much in need by so many. Seniors, young couples and definitely people like our Vets also.

That is eagle homes, it’s not far from me. Unfortunately it’s for 55 plusers. Also crammed into a tight space inside a neighborhood, not very appealing landscape 🙁
Definitely not one of my favorite small house designs (not that anyone else needs cares what I think- 😉) but in my opinion, the outside reminds me of a public restroom at an amusement park or little league neighborhood baseball field. With that said, it certainly serves it purpose and allows someone to live on a much smaller budget than most American’s can get away with in this country! So kudos to whoever built it!
Glad you said it because you’re right… It really does look like one of those structures. Maybe some landscaping could help. Another window in the front would be nice too.
Fresh paint could help too 😀
I agree Alex… I think a fresh coat of paint would make a difference providing no one came along & added graffiti like “Lavatory” or “Women” on one side and “Men” on the other!
In my experience “granny flats” are called this because they are only legally allowed to house a family member, and I believe they are technically meant to be removed before selling the property. Some councils are relaxing these rules a little as we are in the middle of an affordable housing crisis (in many areas). It is a shame tiny houses cannot be embraced, but I do understand the possible pitfalls of changing the rules in favour of them too.
Started out like that in New Zealand. Very first granny flat was built, inhabited by a family member for a few years and then passed on. Told by government department that it had to be removed and they sent a team around to remove it. Oops, problem. Can’t get the removal vehicle in to remove it. Went back to council who went back to Government Dept who scratched their heads and they decided to leave it there.
Never made that mistake again and then a few years later they declared that either property owner either bought it off council at a reduced price or they sub-divided the section. Problem solved.

There ARE tiny houses in Fayetteville and near Bentonville ..
I like the layout, very livable. Although I’d go bonkers not being able to actually see out of a window except in the kitchen. Either lower the windows or switch out for larger ones. Not such a fan of the outside aesthetics either, hope some landscaping will improve that.
