His 20+ Years Living on a Sailboat

Ian started living in his 1978 Hedonist Yatch, “BLOWN AWAY” back in 2000. He spent his free time making the boat livable, completely reconstructing the hull and repainting the lime-green exterior. His background in marine engineering definitely helped!

About 5 years ago he met Natalie, who now lives in the sailboat with him, and the couple enjoy their off-grid sailboat life, staying at anchor and sailing to avoid pricey marina fees. They choose to sleep in the saloon so they can fall asleep to starry-night views. Could you live on the water?

I love these stories on alternative life styles. It sounds like they did their planning well. I’d miss my motorcycles and my two wheeled touring, adventure riding, and off road escapades so full time boat living would not be for me. But I know and accept that and that is what makes life so great. Pursue your passions!
Me, I would like a vacation house boat to experience just a bit of what they are exposed to every day. Have fun guys and live the life! Me, I’m heading off to throw some roost on a dirt trail with my KTM 450 exc.

Been around boats all my days, first I heard of a yatch boat.
    Learn something new every day.
    .
He calls it a ‘cutter-rigged ketch’.
During my time in the Carib, that would be a ‘Bermuda ketch’ partly because of the near-balanced short masts.
