Her 5-Year Plan to Go Tiny by Age 50

This post contains affiliate links.

Jennifer was living with her two teenage sons when she first saw tiny homes on TV. She really wanted one of her own, but wanted to wait until the boys were off to college to get started. So she made a 5-year plan and three months ago moved into her adorable THOW called “The Hairy Respite.”

She lives in her house, custom-designed by Uncharted Tiny Homes in Arizona, with her three dogs. Every part of her home was thoughtfully planned out, from her large living area with a comfy daybed, to her downstairs bedroom with 8 feet of closet space, to her bathroom with a single unit washer and dryer and a doggie door.

Enjoy the detailed tour with Tiny Home Tours below, and follow Jennifer’s journey here.

Well done? She said she rents her land which is very fortunate because her extra width might be a problem in some areas be and her covered dog area wouldn’t be possible elsewhere. How does she get her water and how about AC/ heat? Looks pretty barren in the pictures be so a shaded area would be nice – wondering how the Washer/dryer unit works if it is not just a combination unit, actually two separate units, joined but just stacked? Great planning and very livable with extra sleeping areas as well – just great.

It’s a very good design. I love the shower. Doggie door to outside run is a great idea. Kitchen looks like it would be super convenient and fun to cook in. The secret work desk is cool—when work is done just hide it away!
The house is 10 feet wide, but how long is it? I’m also curious about her heating/ cooling system.

It’s 10′ x 34′ with 10′ x 8′ loft and the deck is 21′ long… There’s a mini-split over the entrance, electric furnace fireplace display under the TV, and ceiling fan over the main bedroom… She also mentions getting good cross breeze with both loft windows open and that filters to the lower space…

I wish I had a hide-away desk. It’s a great way to keep a work-life balance while working from home like so many are doing now.

Wow! What’s not to love? The doggie/pen/bathroom idea is great. I absolutely love the hide away work area, as well as the cast iron steps to the loft on that beautiful barn door; covers several functions with one door. Love the kitchen and bath. Very practical and pretty! I lived in AZ for 6 years previously and understand about the gorgeous sunrises and sensets, and what a great deck from which to watch them. Where does one find a 21′ pallet anyway? You did a great job organizing and decorating the space, and I love the idea of more living space, too. It’s gorgeous!

Same thought about the pallet! I could really use one of those.

There are many types of pallets and manufacturers of pallets can typically cover custom orders, since not everything shipped will fit the standard sizes. Ditto for skids as well… So everything from sheds to heavy machinery…

If you’re near an area that gets such goods you may luck out and find a pallet that size or you can custom order them from one of the many companies that specialize in making pallets/skids… Or, you can just make one… More a question of whether it’ll handle what you intend to use it for…

I just want one to use as a deck haha. Good thought about checking for shed places…

Alternatively, you can just attach regular pallets together to get the size you want and turn that into a deck…

Love your home! Well thought out, and gorgeous! Love that you have lots of guest sleeping areas, and that you get to sleep downstairs. One of the best long-term-livable designs I have seen. Congratulations on your lovely home!
