This woodworker had been thinking of vanlife for about 6 years, but when he neared his 30th birthday he decided it was time for a change for himself and his dogs. He sold his house, outfitted a gorgeous stealth van (he’s a woodworker, so the woodwork is amazing!), and hit the road.
While he planned to start a trip from Alaska to Argentina a few months back, that plan got derailed by COVID. That said, it’s still in the works for the future. For now, he’s enjoying getting in touch with himself on the road.

I’m always curious about insulation—did he insulate the walls and ceiling? I like how spacious it feels, due to his design and decor. Great plan for a guy who loves to cook. I wonder where the video was filmed; I like that campground.
I’ve camperized a van, and the process i used to insulate was to use a self adhesive tin foil type vapor barrier first. That’s important to keep moisture and deaden the sound. Then I glued on dense styrofoam. Then I put in 12 volt and 120 volt wiring, either cut into the styrofoam, or down the vans framing.

Thanks for the idea of bedroom up front. I’m working on a floorpan for a short Skoolie and really hate blocking the “back door” with a bed to climb over. Would be great to have the kitchen/seating area next to an open door. Now to figure out how to fit a wet bath/composting toilet into the mix!
I saw someone put their bathroom in the back of the bus, so it was easy to empty their composting toilet!
Wow! That is the most beautiful van conversion I have ever seen, and so livable. It is a piece of art! You thought of everything. Amazing work, incredible story. Keep us posted of other projects you do.
My daughter was especially in love with the “mermaid” tiles haha.

This is amazing and sparks so many ideas! I wouldn’t need nearly so large of a kitchen so I can see how my family of three could do this for trips. I’ve seen ads for a little portable toilet pop up while reading these posts, and even a little pop up ‘changing room tent’ which could hold it. Hose it all down and tuck it into a little cupboard or on a platform or roof rack when not in use and you have an emergency/night time set up while camping. As a kid, we had a camper van – my brother slept in the bunk under the extendable roof and a canvas stretched across the cab for a little bunk that was mine. If I could figure out how to do it, I could stick my daughter – who also loves the mermaid tile – in there! In a van made to last, we could even add a little pull behind camper as we take these tiny steps toward the ultimate tiny home dream. Every time I start to feel despondent about ever making these dreams a reality, you find a way to keep the gloomy inspired!
