Grandfathered-in Tiny Cottage Home in Southwest Florida

This post contains affiliate links.

In my neighborhood, there are a few grandfathered-in tiny cottages that I’ve found.

Almost all of them are guest houses to a much larger home, on the same lot.

And usually, if you keep looking, you can find that they become available for rent once in a while.

A lot of times the only way to find these are to literally walk in front of them and see that there’s a for rent sign.

So we caught this one when it became available for rent but unfortunately, they didn’t allow us to have dogs so we couldn’t move in.

But at least I got to take some pictures of it with my wide angle lens and an iPhone. Hope you enjoy.

And yup – my photos of this tiny cottage were featured on Tiny House Swoon just the other day. Go check that out!

i wonder what the square footage is… Too bad you didn’t get any inside pictures. This reminds of of the old road side tourist cabins of the 50’s and 60’s that motels took their place when I was a little kid.. Our family used to vacation in them. I’d always dreamed of having one of these little places in my backyard just to escape from the rest of the family now and then.. A little man cave I could call my own…

It was being redone inside when I passed by last since it was in-between tenants so the house was empty, carpet ripped out, etc.. not too picture worthy. But I’ll check back again to see if they’ll let me in once it’s all spruced up.

another place where there are many tiny cottages in pacific grove ca. it is on the ocean end of the monterey peninsula. it once was a religious community. i think the tiny cottages once were tent house that were converted to tiny houses. i also believe they were built in the late 1800’s.
