Four Can Sleep Comfortably in this Toyota Prius RV

If you enjoy the RV lifestyle, and you have about $50,000 to spend, Car Taka can build a Prius RV for you.

Named the Relax Cabin, this converted Prius is 20 inches longer than the standard-issue Prius. With its 80-inch tall roof, just about anyone can stand up and move freely around this vehicle.

Simple food prep and eating are not an issue in this car, as the Relax Cabin contains a microwave and a fridge. In addition, there are countertop surfaces and seats which make dining even more of a relaxing experience.

Thanks to a built-in compartment in the top of the vehicle where one or two people can lie comfortably, sleeping in this car is almost like sleeping in a home. Four people can sleep in this RV at a time.

Car Taka will build this RV for you according to your preferences starting at around $36,000. Here are some photos of the aptly-named Relax Cabin for you to enjoy:

Way cool!! Though if winds are high one might want to park it until things calm down.
And drive more conservatively as cornering will be much less. It’ll still handle better than some older SUVs.
No reason this can’t be made to come off like a camper shell would be the killer app.
Also in the rear I’d make the center by the door a shower, head too using a curtain

Very innovative, clean lines, good design. Great for that “better than camping” experience. I wouldn’t mind owning one of these.

There are other pictures on the internet which show a port-a-potty being stored at ground level under the microwave.

GREAT IDEA! Wonder how much of a “hit” this takes on gas mileage from the “normal” 50 miles per gallon PLUS that the “Prius” is usually capable of doing? STILL, try and do THAT with a “regular” motorhome. My former “Mercedes Sprinter”-based “Airstream Parkway” was 22 feet long, had dual sofas that folded into a “king sized” bed, “wet bath”, small kitchen, generator, and audio/video system, and with the turbo-diesel engine was able to achieve between 20 & 25 miles per gallon, which was AMAZING! My previous “Toyota Tacoma” (pickup truck)-based (“Winnebago”) “Itasca Micro Spirit” with a 3.0 Liter V-6 only went between 10 & 15 miles per gallon, and the fuel tank ONLY HELD 12 gallons, so we would stop every couple of hours for more ga$oline! OUCH! Having an “original” 2001 “Prius”, I know they’re a GREAT vehicle, and this “kit” makes them even BETTER! LONG LIVE “PRIUS”! 🙂 Greg

Sleep four? Yes. In comfort? Don’t count on it. Didn’t see mention of a loo either. So what does the top sleepers do in the middle of the night when they’ve gotta go? And it is ugly, looks like one of those funny homemade redneck cars they post. Would you want one as your daily driver, used seldom as a camper? Or a small travel trailer?

Good Grief what will they come up with next. A tad cramped, but for the weekend get away not at all a bad idea — if the gas mileage does not plummet like a brick. A tad pricey for what it is.

interesting concept — I’ve dreamt of traveling a bit in an RV, but then I’d need to buy a larger, more powerful vehicle to be able to pull it. But with this prototype — if they can fit a simple loo/washroom in one, and design it so someone, if they’re so inclined, may easily add standard sized cushions for a little more comfort — then I say, “SOLD!!!”

Way too heavy because Prius has very little payload and can’t pull a trailer. Article doesn’t mention suspension upgrades or newW

Well, yes and no, Prius does have very little payload capacity, but this is just a modification using lightweight fiberglass and plastic compositing, which also replaces part of the existing frame. So isn’t adding a lot of weight… Though, you would have to watch out with how much stuff you put into it…
