Former Lead THOW Carpenter Builds His Own $16K Tiny House

One benefit of being the lead carpenter at a tiny house company is learning all the tricks of the trade to then use to build you very own — affordable — tiny house on wheels!

Jacob worked for a few years at Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses in Colorado, and he used those skills to build himself not one, but TWO tiny homes. He sold his first one and used the money to help him create a second one, with a little more space and nicer amenities.

All in all, he spent $16,000 on his THOW, and he has it parked for about $500/month at a tiny community in Durango. You’ll love the video tour with Tiny Home Tours below.

Absolutely! No need to sacrifice any comforts to stay within a reasonable budget ($)!

Another winner!! That he chose a kitchen with 5-burner stove (cuz he likes to cook) and kept the bathroom very small (as he doesn’t spend lots of time there) — all makes sense. Again, the marvellous wood, the storage, the deck and a nice dimable ceiling light in the bedroom for reading —– all super nice at an amazing price (not counting the cost of the deck)!!!

Exactly! We all need to focus on our priorities when building a house.

This is very pretty! I like the black accent with all that warm wood. The steps are gorgeous! The entire house is so lovely and we’ll designed. Great job for a great price.

Wow, like your Tiny House, nice and cozy. Love that Cozy feeling. I noticed that you put your faucet on the corner of the kitchen sink. Thinking out side of the box, and putting a place under the stairs for laundry new idea. The Desk, which can serve as a dinner table when it is raining or snowing. But when the weather is warm, and nice, the picnic table is a nice place to have meals and work on the computer. Like the awning over the door and the triangular fabric over the deck.

I’m a little suspicious as it doesn’t seem to have the accepted smartest features like induction cooking and a modern and quiet heat pump.

May seem so but consider it’s an expensive area to live. Even just a studio apartment averages $850 a month, 1 BR averages $1,365, etc. While the medium house costs around $500K, for an idea of what’s normal there…

While his rent isn’t just for a parking spot, check out Island Cove, mobile and tiny home community, Durango CO to get a better idea of what he’s actually paying for and what else is included for that rent…
