Family of 3 in Off-Grid Tiny Home

This post contains affiliate links.

Lee and Payam from Instead Tiny Homes built this off-grid tiny home for Lee’s family. It was a prototype for the off-grid homes they now sell, but it’s also Lee’s full-time residence. Lee, his wife Rebecca, and their son, Max, rent the property where their homestead sits from a friend.

The Scandinavian-inspired tiny house features a ground-floor bedroom separated by a full bathroom. Right now it’s Max’s nursery, but someday he may want the loft, and mom and dad will move into the bedroom. The galley kitchen has tons of counter space and full-sized appliances, and there’s a cozy living area and loft bedroom. What do you think?

Wonderfully thought out and done. Love the materials, the spacious kitchen and bathroom. For some reason, compared to others I have seen of the same length you seem to have more room for things.

Living in Canada with these winters you’ve managed to deal with that – which has always been a concern of mine. What do you do if you don’t get enough rainfall? Also, since you are off grid completely it would be easier to find land to purchase and live on, not needing any of the services. That’s one thing there is a lot of in Canada is empty land!

They don’t own the property, they’re renting it from a friend… They just build off-grid THOWs and custom Sheds, and are basically their own clients too… Their Water is delivered and stored in a tank in the shed, which they also converted to use for their Solar power system…

So you might want to check out Urban Farmer Curtis Stone, he actually covers a lot about obstacles to purchasing land in Canada and being able to use it for farming, homesteading, being off-grid, what rights you really have and what the government may try to tell you that you don’t, etc.

Just for clarity, Payam (my business partner) and I built this house for my partner Rebecca, Max and myself.

I love everything about this tiny — especially the open, airy and clean design. Much of the materials used impressed me as well. Very well done!!!

What a great idea, solar panels on full roof of shed. Putting this in my future tiny home build folder.
