This is the story of the Mejia family and how they ended up to downsize into a tiny house that they built themselves. Before they were living tiny, they were super busy, and would hardly really get to spend very much quality time with each other and with their son.

Family living in a 338-square-foot tiny house for almost 2 years and why they did it…

After crunching the numbers, as long as they built the house themselves, it would work financially. And so off they went to build their very own custom tiny home on wheels that would allow them to build a solid foundation in other areas of their lives to make improvements (in this case to their relationships, lifestyle, and their finances). On many days, they worked 12 hour days to get it done as soon as they could.

Video: Family Builds TINY HOUSE to Start a New Way of Life
Isn’t it amazing how what was once a dramatic and negative event, actually led them into something really great? Sometimes that happens and it’s so hard to realize it, isn’t it? In this case, they ended up with their very own self-built, mortgage-free 338-square-foot custom tiny home.
And now they live a completely different sort of lifestyle. A more laid back, relaxed life, where they can take better care of themselves and each other. It seems to me like it’s creating a wonderful environment to continue to successfully raise their son. And pretty soon, a few years go by, and their bank accounts will grow (thanks to living tiny). And if they like, they can upsize.😊

I so love the open airy light colours inside that make it looks so wonderful! And an actual sofa to sit on and a real table with chairs for eating, working etc.

Thanks Jenna and Alex, This is a home. They lost mostly stuff not needed in downsizing, not quality. Resourceful in finding things to fit both lifestyle and space. Like to know where got couch. The desk/table/prep counter is a find also. There son will still be able to fit when older since not fastened down. Smart home features usually take background knowledge. There was a lot of research in how this was designed!
Different subject-I really like seeing the lived in one’s with the downsides-learn a great deal from that as well.
smart couple! lovely home. looks very inviting. the couch and table are nice. “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. In Vancouver, B.C. a condo almost that size will cost you at least $500K these days. Rent on a 400 sq. ft. condo in Victoria, B.C. is $1,550 per month. This couple did the smart thing.
