Over at Micro Showcase, Sharon goes over the three basic types of tables that transform and serve multiple purposes in your tiny or small home.

He shows you examples of coffee tables that are able to expand into dining tables. And dining tables that can be super compact when not in use.

Please take a look at these furniture options and re-share them with your friends below. Thank you.

Each table has different functions. One can transform into a coffee table with built-in storage. See above.

Or, like the table above, from Resource Furniture, it can serve you in many ways. When you want as much open space as possible it can serve as a simple decorative table.

But when you want to work, have dinner, or even have guests over… You can use a variety of sizes and adjustments to serve your needs at the moment. Pretty awesome, isn’t it? This can even work well if you work from home when you need extra desk space during certain projects, right? It’s a great table.

The option above gives you a table when you need it and almost completely disappears and gets out of your way when you don’t need it. This one’s design is a simple flip up and down so it’s fast to set up and put away. Learn more at Micro Showcase below.

Love to see plans for these tables. Love the versatility of the decorative table to full size dining table.

I love tables that are wall mounted and then open out to accommodate whatever is needed. This saves space and provides a much needed utility. I also like the roll-around tables that have a very slim center piece with drawers on either end and leaves on either side. This is another workhorse of apartment and THOW living.

I have a small table from the 1940s which has four legs and a 4-inch frame supporting the table top with six drawers (three on each side) that had flatware and napkins in them when I bought it at auction. The top is secured by one large bolt in the center, pivots 90-degrees and then folds open. Closed it seats 2-3, or 4 very tightly. Opened up it seats six.

    1. A (male) friend has one of these coffee tables that lifts up to (almost) dining height, since he lives alone and eats in front of the TV.
    2. My sister the interior designer has an absolutely gorgeous rosewood gateleg table that, “closed,” is about 7″ wide (deep?), and open, seats 8 comfortably (we tried it).
2 (again) My mother, married in 1949, had a lovely little mahogany table whose top, like another commenter’s find, swiveled and opened to twice its normal size.
3 is available in a much smaller size from (naturally) IKEA. It will seat 1 comfortably, 2 in a pinch (and I do mean the “pinch” bit!).
