IT IS TIME FOR THE CABINS TO START MOVING INTO THE CITIES. YES, WE CAN USE THEM HERE TOO. CABINS ARE NOT FOR RURAL FOLKS ANY LONGER. SOME OF THEM ARE EXTREMELY SOPHISTICATED IN DESIGN. KEEP THINGS WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY WITH ROOM FOR A LIBRARY AND SOME COMPUTERS. CABINS ARE TAKING CENTER STAGE.

Nice but too much money. You can hire people to build it for $30-40k in parts, labor.
And I’d never have that kind of porch under the main roof, I’d for little money, enclose it and build a simple porch in front of it.

No, $30-$40K wouldn’t get you something equivalent to this with custom built Granite Countertops, Exterior and Interior Cedar Walls and Trim, Gas Fireplace, Cherry Cabinets, 2×6 Floor joists that are 12” OC, Wirsbo Aquapex Manifold System (plumbing system that supports hydronic radiant floor heating), Engineered roof trusses with ½” sheathing, Closed Cell Spray Foam insulation, Mini-Split, Pella Windows with Window Coverings (designer Honeycomb), includes all furniture, tiled bathroom, all appliances, a bedroom with queen bed, nightstand and closet, etc…. At 14′ wide it’s much wider than your typical 10-12′ wide Park Model… and you can basically put this anywhere in the country even with heavy snow loads, hail, and sub freezing temperatures…

This is just not a cheap build meant for people who only want something basic and won’t put it anywhere where it’ll ever have to handle extreme climate and weather… Really, most commercial builders would charge more than $40K for a THOW less than half this size with this kind of custom high end build quality and included features.

You can certainly go cheaper, but comparisons should be to what’s equivalent!

    “Save” $26,000?

I can BUILD this for $26,000. smh

No, that isn’t realistic, you may build something similar with cheaper materials but it won’t be equivalent to what they put into this…

Seriously, people would be getting homes with high end materials, custom cabinetry, and features like radiant floor heating all the time if it could really be done that cheaply…

More photos would have been awesome, like where is the bedroom and bathroom? A comment above at least hints at materials or options but the whole thing reads more like a sales ad in a newsletter.

This home can be built as low as 26,ooo.oo. As a designer, I can tell you that the cabinets even with “high end” won’t total over $6,000.oo with all the bells and whistles. On top of that, the counter top even with the high end of Granite, runs around $1,800.00 and that’s for 25sq feet. As far as the shingles go, even the 30 year all weather won’t be over $750.00 to cover the square footage. So unless that $148,000.00 comes with the land also, I think that spending that kind of money when you can spend that much on a real home with land, isn’t worth the high price tag that you put on these “tiny” unaffordable homes.

I thought it was beautiful but would have like more pictures. Seemed very expensive but maybe the details are high quality.

    This isn’t a tiny house.

      November 5, 2019, 10:09 pm

It technically is at 400 Sq Ft, not counting the enclosed patio… It’s just that not all tiny houses are actually all that tiny but they’re considered so either because they fall into a legal limbo where there’s no standard housing options because of minimum sq ft requirements and other restrictions or they’re just significantly below average house size, which can put them around 1000 Sq Ft or less because people can consider anything below 2000 Sq Ft small…

This falls under the former as traditionally anything 400 Sq Ft or less was not considered a legal residence and that’s thus the main focus of the efforts to legalize tiny houses and thus what most would define as a tiny house… Besides, it’s still a movable structure.

Katie, I think you and Nick both are a bit delusional. You won’t stick build a home for that money anywhere in the country anymore unless it’s someplace like Newport, Arkansas or Bugtussle, Oklahoma. You may cost all those elements of but you still have to pay for you chadis and labor. Engineers get paid who create the space and source the technologies that go into it. You won’t pick up a fifth wheel for that money. What you can do for your $26.000 is go find you and old 1960s era mobil home with fins on the front and try to gut and remodel. I know Nick and personally get the sour grapes that have him coveting the idea of not being involved with “the shelter” and actually owning something.

Yeah, unfortunately, that’s even more true this year… Construction costs have gone up significantly this year, wood especially.

It’s hopefully peaked already but things like OSB sheets that you could have gotten for around $8 last year went up as high as $29, for example. While they don’t expect prices to really go back down for at least until we’re in 2022…

I would like to set up a tour of the Escape Classic. If you could provide the location of a model home and contact information. Thanks.
