If you’re just one person looking for a tiny house with a downstairs bedroom, I think shepherd’s huts offer the perfect size and layout. Here’s the “Duck” Shepherd’s Hut vacation home in Somerset, England to give you some inspiration.

It’s decked out like a English cottage, with quaint cream paneling, French doors, and hardwood flooring. The dining area transforms into the bedroom, making double use of the same square-footage, which you just have to do in something this short!

See how the table folds down? Bedding under the benches!

Tiny kitchenette is great for a brief vacation stay.

Everything you need in this little bathroom with a shower stall.

From Skye Cottages:

This quirky solid oak shepard’s hut is set in its own garden, in the grounds of the owners’ home, on the edge of the village of Compton Dundon, three miles from the town of Somerton and close to Glastonbury…

You enter this wonderful hut via four steps and through double doors into an open plan studio layout with a pull-down fully sprung double bed, that can be put away to be replaced with a dining area. There’s a kitchenette next to the bed along with a warming woodburner. Is there a better place to relax than to light the woodburner and enjoy a drink with your loved one after a fun-filled day exploring the area?

In a separate room within the hut and completing the accommodation is a shower room. Outside is a private lawned garden with flower beds where you can dine alfresco, a lovely place to enjoy breakfast and a coffee, or a cold drink and a meal cooked on the barbecue in the evening sunshine.

PS The article says this hut is “short”. How short is “short”?
(I wish these articles would include the dimensions of these builds; they always leave us guessing and wishing for more information.)

You are so right, dimensions are very helpful! I am always on the lookout to provide as much information about each build as I can 🙂 The problem with providing dimensions is that when we share something like this (a rental cottage), the websites don’t often include those stats because vacationers aren’t looking to purchase the house, just stay a night or two, and don’t need those kind of specifics. But I still LOVE sharing these because even if you can’t go buy it, you can glean great ideas (like that super cool folding-down table) 🙂

Yup! Unfortunately we don’t always get to share dimensions but we’ll do our best to include it when we can get it!

I think it is outstanding…! One of the best interpretation of a Shepard’s hut I have seen in a long time, and is very elegant to say the least…! I have never seen a Shepard’s hut this elegant, with beautiful white walls beautiful counter tops, and matching table and beautiful floors and included bath.. Bath alone is a marvel in it’s self as you don’t find shepherd’s huts with a bathroom and shower… Simply beautiful…!
