Double King Lofts w/ Catwalk in “The Bison”

This post contains affiliate links.

Welcome to “The Bison,” a lovely 28 ft tiny house with not one, but two king-sized lofts that are connected by a catwalk (with a saftey railing!). This is such a great option for a family with kids, or anyone who wants easy access between lofts.

Personally, I’m here for the gorgeous black honeycomb tiles that act as a heat-block for the wood stove! Can we just talk about the craftsmanship that goes into installing the wall siding and flooring around all those angles? Impressive job, Modern Tiny Living!

28 ft. Sage Green Farmhouse THOW

First up, distant view of those honeycomb tiles!

The color of the cabinets. Love!

Lot of under-stair storage, conviently hidden behind doors.

The ever-popular farmhouse sink.

I love that they have a tiny oven! Time to bake bread.

The ceilings have a warm, rustic feel.

Sliding barn door gives access to the bathroom.

Composting toilet and lovely vanity.

Great idea carrying the honeycomb into the shower.

Washer/dryer hook ups.

And a closer look at those honeycomb tiles in the living room.

Huge skylight over the bed.

The other loft.

You can see the catwalk on the right.

Well there are alot of changes I would make to this home. I wouldn’t have the black tile in the living area,no black tile in bathroom,no composting toilet. No sky light because they leak in time. I would have two upper cabinets instead of shelves. I would remove the end counter where the sink is,I would end it after the drawers. What is the price of this home?

Well, a properly installed and maintained modern skylight shouldn’t have much more risk of leaking than the adjacent roof or a regular window. They’re much better engineered than they used to be but the main problem would be roof maintenance and how that would impact it as it may require everything be replaced every 20-40 years, as it may be too problematic to work around the skylight…

It can also be the detailing as a lot of what gets called ‘leaks’, is really condensation on the inside of the skylight dripping down and staining the edges of the opening. Something that more energy efficient models and proper air flow and de-humidification, if you’re in a humid climate, can avoid…

So mainly it’s just not something to cut corners on if you choose to have them, but it’s possible to not have leaks with them if you get the right one for your climate and get all the install details done correctly…

While the home is a custom build, which means everything is just the way the owner wanted it. Prioritizing being able to entertain guests and living space instead of a bedroom was how they described it… So other than to show the quality of their builds, you can get it completely differently but your choices will effect the price so that will usually require requesting a quote from them… But you can work with their Architect and designer to get all the details exactly how you want it…

Lovely house but I wish you would put approximate prices on the houses to give us a rough estimate of what they cost.

Something to keep in mind is that even a rough estimate may be only valid for a period of time with the changing economy. Like material prices now are much higher than they were even just a little over 2 years ago, adding more than several thousands to the average cost of a build.

But it’s based on the Kokosing Model Series, which for now still has a starting price of $79,000 or $450/mo*… For the basics of…

      Length: 24′
      Sleeps: 4

How high is the ceiling in the loft/catwalk area? Can you stand up and walk or do you have to crawl across the catwalk? You will delete this because it is not complimentary! I have not said this about this building, and it is a genuine concern for potential buyers.

Delete? Unless you’re posting spam, trolling, or hate speech, why?

Posts on this site are just run through a spam filter. So a post may not show up right away if it gets flagged by the algorithm, and it can take awhile before an admin sees it and approves the post…

Anyway, loft headroom height isn’t given. So you’d have to contact the builder and ask them…

From the looks of it, I’d say no, there’s maybe 42″ of headroom. Don’t necessary need to crawl, crouch walking, etc. are options with over 3 feet, but that’s not enough to stand up straight.

The structure is only 13′ 6″ from the ground, which usually only leaves a max of around 11′ of interior height, most of which goes to the main level to provide minimum standing height and walking space. So there usually can’t be standing height in the loft unless space is sacrificed from below to give it to the loft.

Putting the loft over storage spaces is one of a couple of ways that can be accomplished… Alternatively, you can forego ease of mobility and built it taller than the max legal road height allows without needing an oversize permit, etc. or invest in a system that allows the structure to be taller when parked and set up, such as fold outs, slide ups, and pop ups or stack-able and modular structure.

While pretty much everything they build is custom, so whatever they build would be what was agreed upon with their clients…

I would love to see a larger – tiny home built for Drs. to age in place – no loft but nice open bedroom – bathroom with no step shower. Loft area for guests & storage.
