Digital Marketer Celebrates One Year of RV Life with Two Cats

This post contains affiliate links.

Lindsay has always loved small spaces and traveling, so when a job popped up that would let her work remotely, she jumped at the chance of a nomadic life!

Just last week Lindsay (@lind_says on Instagram) celebrated her one year anniversary of living on the road in her renovated RV with her two cats, Mowgli and Mouse. While the exterior of her RV would blend in at any campsite, it’s the interior that’s remarkable: The whole thing is a bright and clean creamy white with a few colorful accents to tie it all together.

We got to do a Q&A with Lindsay which you can read at the end of the post. Enjoy the photo tour!

Lindsay’s Beautiful Renovated RV

Lindsay has created some good storage space above the cab for the things she needs.

Her built-in vanity area has the sweetest sage green tile backsplash.

And here’s one of her adorable cats taking a look out the window.

I love this wall of storage. Those pulls go perfectly with the creamy white cabinets.

Lindsay says she loves her bed most of all. It’s so simply decorated, but it’s perfect.

Here’s her front door leading outside .

And in the kitchen she has some cute succulents handing.

Macrame pot hanger + two cute kitties = a perfect photo.

So many awesome pillows on her dinette bench! I love it.

Lindsay works as a digital marketer remotely, so she works full time while on the road.

Q&A with Lindsay about her Nomadic Life

What are your name(s)? Lindsay (and my cats Mowgli & Mouse)

Where do you live? How long have you lived tiny? I am a digital nomad, so I live everywhere and nowhere. I bought my RV a little over a year ago, spent a couple months renovating, and have been living in it full time and traveling for a year. (Actually my 1 year anniversary is today! April 19)

What do you do for work? Or do you travel full-time? I have worked in digital marketing for 9 years and was lucky enough to find a full-time job that is fully remote. So I work a normal 9-5 from the road while I’m traveling.

Why did you decide to go tiny? What are you hoping to get out of living tiny? I have always loved tiny living spaces. I look at it as a practice in minimalism. My first apartment was a little beach studio in Santa Monica and I fell in love with it. I love how I had to be intentional about every thing I owned. Every piece of furniture had to be dual purpose. But at the same time, I was able to decorate it to feel cozy and not cluttered. I hated how much “stuff” I accumulated when I lived in bigger places after that and wanted to return back to a more simplistic living style. When I move back into a sticks & bricks place some day, it will be something small.

How did you first learn about tiny life? Probably through Instagram. I became obsessed with travel trailers and vanlife and had been talking about doing it for years before I actually made it happen.

How long did it take to finish your RV? The real question is, is it ever finished? haha. I worked on it for about 2 months before moving into it full time but there was still a lot left to do at that point. I’ve been gradually finishing renovations while living in it over the last year.

How did you build your RV? Did you have any help? Did you do it yourselves? So. Many. YouTube. Videos. I did everything myself with the help of family and friends. Luckily my brother in law has every tool imaginable and has been kind enough to help me with a lot of it. I had never done anything like this before, but I’ve always been a DIY person. I love the process of figuring things out, so this has been a super fun process for me. It actually makes me want to start flipping other RVs or maybe even houses!

Are you comfortable sharing how much your tiny home cost? What are bills/utilities like compared to before? I really didn’t keep track of all the renovation costs but I think all-in (RV cost + renovations) I was probably around $40k. I mostly boondock so nowadays my utilities are just insurance (~$100/mo) and gas money. In months I’m traveling a lot I might spend around $1,000 on gas, but when I’m staying put it’s closer to $100-200.

How did you find a place to park and live in your RV? I travel full time and usually boondock on public land so I use apps like AllStays and Campendium to find spots to camp.

Before going tiny, what was life like? I lived in Nashville for the last few years before moving into the RV. I had an apartment and would travel a lot or go on weekend adventures around TN. It’s a really fun place to live, but I wanted more. I wanted to see more of the country and meet all kinds of people. I just felt kind of stagnant there, so when I found a job that let me work remote, I jumped at the chance.

Is there anything from your old life that you miss? My friends, 100%. Thankfully with modern technology we’re able to stay in touch regularly but it’s not the same as being able to give them a big hug or go grab a beer together. I travel alone so it can get lonely for sure.

What benefits are you experiencing after going tiny? I have no bills which is pretty awesome. Also, I never have to pack for anything because I always have my whole house with me! I have the freedom to go wherever I want, whenever I want. If I go to a place and like it then I can stay for a month. If I don’t like it then I can leave that day. It’s pretty freeing.

What about some challenges? On the other hand, if I want to run a quick errand, I have to take my whole house with me, which means securing everything that is loose, pulling in the slides, and giving up whatever coveted parking spot I had. Also, I miss normal showers haha. Things break at the most inopportune times. Water and waste tanks need filling and emptying. I don’t have electrical hookups most of the time, so if I need to charge my computer then I need to run my generator or charge my Jackery power station with my solar panel.

What makes your RV special? It’s just very “me”. I’ve poured a lot of myself into the renovations and it really just feels like home. It’s the perfect setup for me and I love it.

What is your favorite part of your RV? My bedroom. It’s kind of like my security blanket. If things get stressful, I can go back in there and shut everything else out. It just has a very calming vibe.

What helpful advice would you give to others interested in going tiny? Do some research, but know that you’re never going to be fully ready and you just have to make the leap. My favorite quote is “she took the leap and built her wings on the way down”. I really live by that – if you put yourself into a situation where you’re uncomfortable then it forces you to figure it out and you learn so much faster than if you tried to prepare 100% before you started. Also, always take your shoes off at the door or else your entire place will be covered in dirt within 5 minutes 🙂

Maybe if the digital marketing doesn’t work out, she can be an interior decorator for people when they go tiny! So cool!

Lindsay, beautiful job you did. Classy! Very clean and you are a cat person like me. Love this. Nothing that I don’t like. You have talent with decorating.

Thank you!! It’s definitely nice having my little fur babies to keep me company on the road.

This is the most amazing/complete RV I have seen. It literally has everything and doesn’t have a “crowded” feeling. I especially love all the light. Excellent job girl. You are truly gifted. Is your toilet a compost? Do you have solar for regular lighting? Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful home with everyone. I could easily live in this in California.

Thank you so much! I have considered switching to a compost but I still have a standard black tank toilet for now. And same with solar – something I’ve thought about but haven’t figured out where I would store the batteries so I just haven’t done it yet! Between my generator and my Jackery power bank (which I have a portable solar panel to charge) I get along just fine.
