These custom floating stairs have shown up in a couple of our builds. They are designed to fit the space needed in each tiny home, and they lend themselves to an open and airy feel.1
Handcrafted by co-owner, Bob. Bob’s background blends construction and welding fabrication and it meets beautifully together in the designs of our tiny homes. 👨🏭 🔨1

Ha ha, doesn’t meet our definition of a floating staircase. Floating staircases get their name due to the fact that they look like they are… well you know, floating. These certainly don’t look like they are. Still, quite nice though.
I’ve been in building since the mid 60s. I’ve installed floating stairs and these are not floating stares. These are nice stares and better than true floating stares for a tiny house. Do to twisting and wracking I think the open risers are a far stronger choice. The framing of a tiny home would need to be beefed up beyond reason to use true floating stares. Well done I’d be happy to have these in my home, with a hand rail,I’m getting older.
Floating is Floating…… this is not floating
Well, let’s start with the obvious that there’s actually no such thing as floating staircases, just minimized or hidden supports and it’s just an illusion of floating but that illusions doesn’t actually have to be that convincing to qualify…
People just confuse how they should look because of an overly literal interpretation of the name, or think there’s only way to do them but the reality is a floating staircase encompasses multiple designs that are often synonymous with an open riser staircase because both create the illusion of floating, but not all floating staircases feature open risers and not all floating staircases have hidden supports.
Many floating staircases are held up by a steel mono stringer, while others make use of double stringers, side stringers, metal frames, or wall-pockets. Some stringers are made of glass — and some even support from the ceiling. Some options are just better at making the supports hidden and harder to see how the stair treads are attached to the supports…
But the point is more about making them look airy and be able to see past them and/or letting light through. So the supports don’t have to invisible for the name to apply…
well, thank god you cleared thatt up.. lol
I for one love Bob’s staircase. And I hope he has even more good ideas that we will get to see
