24-ft. Cypress Tiny House in Maui, Hawaii

You can get some really nice airflow in this tiny house with all of these windows.

The design is very open. Even the shower is not walled off.

It’s a slightly customized tiny house built using the Tumbleweed Cypress floor plans.

They built it on a Tumbleweed trailer too.

Exotic tigerwood ceilings, maple walls, and maple cabinets.

It also has LED lighting inside and out.

This tiny house has attic-style ladder access to the loft.

This tiny house is designed to be lived in with no air conditioning.

The tigerwood ceilings look great. Here’s a look at the storage loft.

I like these Tumbleweed designs with the corner-covered entry.

A look at the other side of the tiny house. You can see the instant hot water heater out here.

What do you think of this slightly customized 24-ft. Tumbleweed Cypress tiny house build in Maui?

Would you consider buying this tiny house? Or maybe getting the plans and building one yourself?

No toilet. No privacy around shower. The kitchen counter is very long but the stove and oven aren’t built in. Two small refrigerators. I wonder why they built it this way.

Well, people sometimes have issues with the toilet being in close proximity to everything else to the point they just put it somewhere else like an outhouse, appliances are typically not built in when they either won’t be used that often or there’s a need for flexible use space and being able to put the appliances away to free up space, and location often plays a factor like being in Maui, Hawaii means this was designed for use on a island with tropical conditions, etc.

Yeah, I just wondered if it was built for some specific purpose. The main loft is more private than many, and can be completely closed off from below. The whole design just makes me curious.

Just go to their sale website and scroll down, there’s a section they give some description of the reasoning for their choices…

A kitchen with an open shower. That is not very hygienic. Vapor and bacterias, from the person showering, will get out in the entire room. There is a reason why most building codes demand bathrooms to be away from the kitchen.

It wouldn’t be hard to build a wall to separate the shower area. But it is a curious choice, the way it is now.

Uh, no, there’s no codes requiring a bathroom be away from the kitchen. It’s just a preference for privacy and aesthetic reasons, primarily for consideration for the resale value of the home.

Closest thing to a restriction is just for the toilet, if it opens to the kitchen then it should have a door, proper ventilation, and a sink to wash hands before entering the kitchen… But this home doesn’t have a toilet, so that doesn’t apply…

Seriously, there couldn’t be any bathrooms in a tiny house, or RV’s, or food trucks, or anything small, if there was really any codes restricting proximity to the kitchen… So long as the plumbing, electrical, and fire safety codes are followed, it can be designed however people may want…

Besides, the shower is enclosed with a sliding glass door and the home is designed to handle moisture as it’s in Maui, Hawaii, and like old homes it’s not conditioned and remains open and vented to the outside. So pretty much constantly exposed to the tropical air and air flow would prevent interior from getting more concentrated..

So no actual issues, it’s just not a design you’re comfortable with but that’s fine. We all have our preferences and things we do and don’t like…

We have become used to large homes, & can’t conceive of any other way….not sure abt whos showering, but for many yrs. b4 industrialization, & middle class, abt everything was very close w VERY little privacy! Think little house on Prarie. Unless person was wealthy-was NO inside toilet. Wouldn’t most uncleanness be washed & removed w door on while showering? Unless working etc. outside, Hawaii has only a 2-3 degree temp variation between summer & winter, so most ppl are just washing up & goes down drain. Which is why no codes. Sometimes things just shock us initially bc we aren’t used to seeing it any other way.
I’m thinking this set up was for a couple, and I love the no air conditioning set up! Ppl now seem to love it so cold need a blanket, which when dressed in summer clothes-myself, I freeze -then sweat-& get sick frequently…[its good for others]-But I love it-bravo! With some shade trees & the Ocean breeze that’s common, it has a less expensive- & natural set up!-It’s not for average location, yet this was the same idea as the Lanais in Fl, b4 affordable central air cond.-where ppl slept out on the Lanai hoping for lower temps & breeze at night-to try to get some sleep in FL hot humid summers.
