I intend to look further at your design. Would love to know how much you are asking for it. It may be out of my budget, but I know a retreat center that might be interested. Thanks!

Interesting roof. The inside ceiling is rounded but the roof is jointed like a mansard roof. Wonder why not rounded outside, too — like the gypsy wagons?

Nice, but that shower is a tripping hazard. I’d like to see rails to hold onto while entering and exiting the shower.

Their website is fantastic. It chronicles the building and all the trials and tribulations that went with it. And it has lots more photos. The video “Small is Beautiful” is not free to watch. I had already bought the video, so I just watched it again. Their website is better.

Love the tiny home. Want to know the price or cost of tiny home like that. My son is a disable veteran and wants to either purchase a tiny home or build one. It would be a great retreat form him to just live off the grid when he feels the need.

    • Snitch
      June 28, 2015, 3:41 pm

Martha: I am also a disabled Vet. I am having my THOW built right now, and plan on moving to it in about one month. Mine cost about $25K, but the builder will customize it to your wants/needs. I went through Dave Bates @ http://www.tinyportablecedarcabins.com, and he was willing to work with me on my budget. You can even make it off-grid capable if you wish. Also note, there are many tiny home workshops for those people who want to build their own, but don’t know how.

Snitch! ty for that link! It is difficult to find that price range in a new build! and their website seems to be transparent in the pricing of add-ons and what is included.

Oh Repurposed Wood, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. As a teacher I give extra credit for imagination, ingenuity, and innovation in reuse of existing materials.

  • Sparrow
    June 28, 2015, 2:04 pm

I agree. If it has any kind of “style”, it’s more Dutch Colonial.

  • M

Some can only see beauty in shiny and bright. New and modern. Traditional and conventional. Design by Category. Gosh, how dare someone find some toss away pieces of wood and artfully arrange them into their living space. Not unlike how a bird puts together a nest from a little of this and a little of that found here and there. Right Sparrow? Wouldn’t you say a bird is something of a “craftsman”? Have you ever seen how exquisite a creation a bird’s nest is? How “rough”? I think it takes far more “craftsmanship” to repurpose scraps than that elitist design category named Craftsman. Which I find somewhat “cookie cutter” as its SO recognizable. I think most all the THs are built by craftsmen. Who happen to be individuals as well. But then I can see the forest for the trees. Nor do I have rel/pol axe to grind.

“The movement naturally emphasized handwork over mass-production, with the problem that expensive materials and costly skilled labor restricted acquisition of Arts and Crafts productions to a wealthy clientele, often ironically derided as “champagne socialists”.

While the British movement also reacted against the eclectic Victorian ‘over-decorated’ aesthetic, the Arts and Crafts style’s American arrival coincided with the decline of the Victorian era. The American Arts and Crafts Movement shared the British movement’s reform philosophy, encouraging originality, simplicity of form, local natural materials, and the visibility of handicraft, but distinguished itself, particularly in the Craftsman Bungalow style, with a goal of ennobling modest homes for a rapidly expanding American middle class.”

For those who don’t know the origin and purpose of the Craftsman Movement.

This is one of the most beautiful tiny houses out there. Absolutely beautiful! The design is wonderful. Love the sliding barn door, and the touches of white in the kitchen. The bathroom is a piece of art, the shape of the roof is masterful, the eave windows are amazing. Everything about this home is unique and lovely and well built. We could all take a lesson! Thanks for sharing this, and good luck with finding that lucky buyer.

Where can I get that barrel shower!!!?

    • James D.
      April 23, 2022, 11:04 am

Have to make one, they took a barrel and turned it into a shower… Most everything you see is hand built…

        April 23, 2022, 11:26 am

Is it a regular wine barrel it looks bigger..??

        • James D.
          April 23, 2022, 11:44 am

There’s many different types of barrels, they used to be the common way to store and ship goods and they were often custom built to what was needed. Like the world’s largest wine barrel is considered to be the Heidelberg Tun, contained within the cellars of Germany’s Heidelberg Castle. It was built in 1751 from 130 oak trees by Prince Elector Karl Theodor, and it stands 7 meters high (~23′), 8 1/2 meters wide (~28′), holds 220,000 liters (that’s more than 58,000 gallons) of wine, and has a dance floor built on top of it.

The trade that made them was called Cooper, and it is an option to learn that to build your own. or you can see if you can find someone who still practices that trade.

But, you can look for rain barrels and other examples that could be bigger than your typical wine barrel… Cut it in half and install the shower hardware… The main reason to use one that was used for liquor is the aroma they give off can be considered quite pleasant to some and it recycles material that would otherwise be thrown away typically and considered wasteful…
