What a clean, attractive and functional design! The owner-builders can be justifiably proud of their accomplishment. One of the best layouts I’ve seen. Only change I’d make would be to add some sort of railing to the loft and “stairway” — though this would detract from the clean lines. (Stocking feet and finished wood surfaces make for a high slip-&-fall hazard.) Aside from this safety concern, I give two-thumbs-up on a very cool home on wheels!

You could use clear plexiglass as a railing/wall so it provides some measure of safety but doesn’t detract from the clean lines! Great design!

OMG!! One of the best well layouts and planned ones yet. With all that storage and closet space galore. It could use or does need a railing to the loft stairway, I agree with Patrick there..

Yup! Just like Patrick says, clean and functional! I like that too, especially that storage area at the back of the bathroom and under the stairs. The outside looks good too. Very well planned and built. Good job!

I love the minimalist and simplicity approach. The exterior is wonderfully plain and economical with it’s reclaimed -durable galvanized siding accented only with the entry, facia and windows. The interior is clean uncluttered and organized and seems well thought out. I get the impression that the inhabitants really aren’t possession oriented and see no indication of a need to fill every space with something homey, and the space feels high quality. I especially like that the interior was painted and not all wood tone. So many amazing details that went into the build from the double plywood wall and double foam insulation to the amazing lighting system and walnut flooring and accents. The choice of toilets seems good as does going with a properly installed propane system which will be much more economical than heating with electricity. Speaking of electricity I didn’t notice any cutouts in the exterior walls for that or for plumbing, cutouts which would degrade the insulation value. This place is very well built and should last forever and be quite cozy and efficient. My only critique would be that the upfront cost and skill level is very high for the average do it yourself-er but I’m sure it will depreciate very little and pay for itself in the long run. Thanks for all the detailed pics, great job!

I agree with all the comments about the well thought out design and the functionality. I would only change the slant of the lounge as I have a problem with my back. Cudos to you all.

I forgot to mention how much I love the shapes and sizes and number of windows you put in. I couldn’t stop thinking about the airiness and cleanness of line.

(as a senior citizen, the low ceiling of loft bedrooms is always a problem, however, your floorplan could overcome that quite easily…) If you turned the refrigerator 90 degrees and made an L shaped kitchen (nothing else needs to change except access to the storage under the staircase) and extended that next to top step all the way to the end of the trailer, you add about 20 inches of headroom to your loft so you can be more upright. NOT the whole width of the loft, obviously…but just the width of the STAIRCASE, so you don’t impinge on the ceiling height of the kitchen, but give just a bit more headroom in the upstairs.

Mary there is something the Swedes have come up with that you would love. A good generous staircase with railing. Once used is slides into gaps left in the storage. So that storage could go all the way up and have more space and a staircase!

Mary, I agree with you about stopping the stairs one step lower (or whatever height one likes to step out of bed) so that you could stand next to the bed. I am so surprised that more tiny home builders do not consider this option! Admittedly, creating standing room in the loft lowers the ceiling below to the width of the stairs, so I would put the bathroom under the loft, using the space with the low ceiling for laundry equipment, or perhaps that side could be sectioned off for the outdoor storage space if preferred. I would put the kitchen counter where the couch is, utilizing some of the under-step space for fridge. That leaves the largest open space on the end for the sitting area and an L-shape couch, desk, etc. I much prefer a cozy sitting area where more than one person can stretch out and enjoy outdoor views (not sitting across from stairs and a wall with a tv.)

Here the link, took a little while to find and I don’t like their colourscheme but that is easily amendable.

Vanyel, I love those stairs! That’s a much safe solution than most of the other tiny house stairs or ladders.

The more I look at this the more

The more I look at this the more aesthetically pleasing that roof line is and the more I like this design. I’m thinking you could have a heck of a sauna in that back storage area though.

    Dear Samantha and Robert,

After many years of following the Tiny House movement, seeing hundreds of THOW’s, yours has to be the best blend of design, execution, space efficiency, features, functionality, site treatment, and livability I have seen yet. Wow.

We’re going to use these plans for sure if we build a THOW.

Thanks so much for generously sharing this and as always, thanks to Alex for this great, great site.

I haven’t revisited this gorgeous house in more than a year, and I find that it remains one of my Top 10 tinies of its size of all time — and I have watched all the TV shows and have spent probably thousands of hours in the past 4 years on Pinterest and websites of builders, as well as watching tinyhousetalk’s blog faithfully, exploring so many many tiny houses on and off wheels. This one is exceptionally uncluttered, yet warm, and has ample storage and everything one would need to live well. i voted for it as house of the year in tinyhousetlk’s 2016 reader poll. And I would vote for it again. I would very much love to hear what has become of this house and the couple that designed and built it. Are they still living in it? Have they made ny changes since building it?

I wish they had plans for building this as it is exactly what i have been searching for last couple years . A set of plans and construction manual would be a God send
    Regards

Although this is too small for me, I think it is beautifully done. I love that there is so much hidden storage space and the kitchen is also really nice.
