The obvious question: in such super-tiny space, what about cabin fever during long Maine winters? Is it stressful/claustrophobic being in such close quarters, or are the couple each going off to jobs in the morning and only sharing space after work?

I think most cases of cabin fever faded away with the advent of broadband internet. And frankly, being snowed in with your Maine (ha!) squeeze for a couple of days seems pretty appealing, especially of there’s a good cook afoot…..

Snowshoeing to the shower however, might be a deal breaker. Bring on the tiny sauna!

Wow, that is really small, functional and cute! I have 190 sq. ft., and truth be told, I don’t need all this space, but I hate loft beds and low overhead. This would be manageable for me, almost. Deep storage would be in the loft. This is a great way to save money, though, and I wish I had had this opportunity when I was younger. And, Annette, cabin fever is not a problem in a tiny house. I cook, sew, read, do yoga, and visit the world through electronics. No probs, at all. It’s even darker here, where I live, in the winter. I love that there’s almost nothing to do outdoors, (like mowing). If it snows, I just stay in until it melts, or play in the snow. Retirement, it’s sweet. lol

…. so this is tiny extreme serves as a great example of Milton’s statement that ““The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..”
Tiny house living is about escaping conventional mental confines?

Annette, it certainly has been for me. I used to own a bed and breakfast, and this is freedom, for sure. Mental confines are what you allow them to be, indeed.

    Thank you!
It’s always sad to hear people talk about how hard it must be to live in such small spaces – and then, horror of horrors, with a partner!
To me, living small with a partner is a testament to a successful and intimate relationship where being together holds more value than being apart.
Perhaps spaciousness is not about the amount of space we make available for our bodies – rather, it is about the amount of space we make available in our hearts.
Our houses, like our minds, are often wildly out of proportion to the volume we actually use.
    You Rock!

Well-said, Pete Matheson! My 48 square foot Vardo is perfect. Have never experienced cabin fever. My motto? Big land, tiny house.

I really want to go tiny but there is no way I can scale things down to an 8′ x 9′ space! Cute place.
