Couple Turn Box Truck into Tiny Home

Bill and Becky Goddard run Rustic Campers, a business dedicated to turning your camper, van and/or motorhome into the home sweet tiny home of your dreams. The couple has even turned a box truck into their own tiny home on wheels.

While many may think it impossible to live exclusively in a small motor home, Bill and Becky make the impossible very possible with their beautiful transformations. Take their converted Box Truck Camper, for example. Using locally sourced wood for most of the accents of their tiny dwelling, Bill and Becky created a practical living space complete with a fully functional kitchen, sitting area with breakfast nook, and bunk beds for a comfortable nights sleep. Becky, also the cofounder of the recycling textile business ‘Pretty Rubbish’ tries to only use natural fabrics such as cotton, wool and other recycled fabrics when picking out the upholstery for each of the custom camper vans.

Bill and Becky take pride in their creations and love to work closely with each of their clients to make sure that they leave as happy campers. Each project they work on is unique in it’s own way and customized to the customers liking and preferences. The Goddard’s are based in Welsh, border town of Presteigne.

From the outside, it still looks like an ordinary box truck. But once you slide open the rear door, you quickly realize it’s much more than that.

And when you’re inside, you feel more like you are inside of a cabin than in a box truck, or a former work truck.

That’s why everything is perfectly handcrafted to be like a tiny house.

I totally love this and I’m sorry these folks are so far away! Absolutely love the stained glass, the metal straps on the doors, the half doors and all the rest of it; so charming and quaint. I had to look twice and remind myself this was built inside a box truck! Fabulous! And I hope we will see lots more from Rustic Campers in the future (lots of pics, please.)

Love the inside! It is like an awesome cabin on the inside: pretty, cozy & functional. 🙂 It’s cool too how you can take it anywhere incognito! It looks like you can easily lock it up to keep it safe. Very interesting! 🙂

I love this! It looks so amazingly spacious, I could live in it. The details are just right.

Very nice. I was wondering is there like a combination stove and pot belly heater one can get instead of two separate units?

thought I needed a tiny house but now I know what I need – No. 1, a rustic camper van to do a bit of touring in the tiny house style but with easability and then after that a tiny house proper, with feet on the ground……….and rent out my rustic camper for other lucky people to experience. So, when the mood says drive then I’ll hop into the camper and when it says home again then back to the tiny house. Best of both worlds 🙂

Beware of this one folks, in most jurisdictions you will be pulled over and given huge fines for not having proper trucking permits for hauling furniture !

      Seth:
HA! Good one! “Madam, you are moving furniture without without without… is that fresh-baked apple pie I smell? You know, as a trained investigator, it is my duty to taste-test, make sure it’s up-to-snuff…”

Based on experience, in most jurisdictions, Law Enforcement Officials just want to tell us their plans for retirement! They get bored, they drop by for a chat, they leave energized and smiling. We always offer ice tea and a slice of smoked salmon. Simple hospitality goes a long way… and who knows, we might all end up as neighbors.

“So… what are you doing after you retire?”

So happy to see this!. I have been thinking a lot lately about turning a box truck into a tiny home. I was told by a friend that truck rental places often have trucks for sale at around $3500. That’s not too bad if anyone else is thinking of doing the same.

It’s cute and really pretty but don’t the bunk beds kinda…….suck? Unless you skip that and just sleep together in one! Also……..where do you pee?

    • Kurt
      July 29, 2016, 9:56 pm

“…where do you pee?” You must be new to the van dwelling lifestyle. You can pee:
      > behind a tree or bush
      > campground restrooms
      > store or gas station restroom
      > small wide-mouth sealable container
      > porta-potty

I dont think it is bunk beds, I assume it is a bed over cab with a small storage space underneath the overhang?

Wow! The truck is great…but what an incredibly handsome man in that picture. Sorry…couldn’t help but notice. Love the wood interior, and especially the tiny window next to the door. The bunk type beds are cool, too.

Being that the company is a UK one local “Law enforcement” won’t be an issue like it might be in the US & Canada seeing as it’s not in either and don’t reckon in its homelands it would have anymore than a nosy Police employee wanting to see inside it, to see how it was made, only weight laws in the UK so long as the GLW was not over 3.5 tonnes all in the driver would be safe enough.
Weight now that brings me onto my next query? In that there has been a great deal of wood very skilfully used in the building of this clever “mobile home” as we all know wood is not the lightest of materials thus what I would like to know is A – What is the both laden and unladen GWL on this vehicle along with a (rough, if a exact one is not available) MPG figure and B – What model and engine type/size is this making use off please as I suspect the MPG figures are likely to be very low making it a shame but if I am right in the UK fuel costs have to be seriously considered as does the insulation fitted I.e has she been winterised at all ? And if so ! Using what materials and how?
But overall a very special, very useable incognito machine if you want it that way although the panels cut out the sides to fit the Windows could easily be retained and recut to make an inset panel that fits back over them for use when being left unattended for any length of time, to ensure its as safe as possible or when living in a town or city and not wishing to let on what it is to avoid being moved on.
Thus so far it’s sparked the ideas mill in my head, having completed a good few both fully windowed and incognito vans for both myself and various friends, but I have never built one with this “wooden cabin” type vibe that I have to say excites me.
Well done for bringing something to a crowded market that’s very different and certainly with a few tweaks, easily able to be used for LT travel plans.
Would love to hear both the original builders and THTs community with there thoughts on my points raised above ………
    Many thanks

It’s three years later and I’m still loving this box truck house. There is so much to love from the stained glass to the little window. I see they have continued on modifying and upgrading the inside. It’s wonderful. Keep those pics coming, and thank you for sharing with us!

Beautiful , well organized and charming concidering how small of space it is you have made a beautiful home and if i didn’t know it was housetruck I would never guess . Never ceases to amaze me that someone can build a exceptional space in a small area like bus , or truck wish you’d teach someof these people building THOWs they don’t get cozy ,homey, lived, home conception but it seems to me that those building smaller units get it . thank you sincerely deb in VT.
