Couple Living Tiny in Micro Camper

This post contains affiliate links.

I thought you’d enjoy this story of a couple who’s living tiny in their 6′ x 9′ micro camper which happens to be a 1987 teardrop-like travel trailer.

But they have plans on upsizing into a more spacious 8′ x 20′ custom built tiny house on wheels. But for now, they’re content in their teardrop micro home.

I’ll let them tell you the story themselves below…

I encourage you to read their story, check out their tiny home, and even take the video tour below:

Video Tour of the 6’x9′ Teardrop Camper Cabin

“Hello Alex,

I’ve followed your page for some time, and it was where I saw my first tiny house, Dee Williams house! (who we later got to meet in Seattle)

That was in November last year, about a week after my partner and I had got rid of our apartment, things, and jobs and left to live on the road out of our 6′ x 9′ 1987 Teardrop Trailer.

We’ve now been living out of it happily and successfully for 7 months and couldn’t be happier.

We left Ontario, Canada November 1st and drove through the US, up the West coast and through British Columbia and we are now heading back to Ontario and will begin building our very own tiny house with a month.

So for us, we are upgrading in size as the house will be 8′ x 20′ and our space is now 6′ x 9′! Haha.

We are aiming to have our build be interactive with our local community as there is a growing interest in smaller more intentional living, but there aren’t many tiny house people in Southern Ontario.

We hope our journey can inspire people locally the way people a part of this movement have inspired us.

I’ve attached some photos and a video, feel free to share it.

How expensive is it to live day to day in such a trailer? It would seem that daily parking or campground fees would cost more than living in a modest apartment. I really want to live on the road in some sort of small trailer or minivan. With the van I could blend in without causing people to look at my rolling home. It could be parked anywhere. With a trailer that seems impossible. How do you do it?

Micheal, I am currently in the process of converting a 6×10 v-nose enclosed cargo trailer into a tiny house for this very reason. The trailer cost me about $2,200 from a local trailer dealer here in eastern NC. I got it with barn doors and had it custom made with the side door in one of the v-nose walls so as not to have it taking up precious wall space, which will be completely paneled in pegboard to provide me tons of hanging storage space. The progress is slow right now but I am documenting the process on my blog, dreamtiny.com

Don’t your rubber bands burn in that hot light? I think it’s great you are out and about in this super tiny camper. I love the different ideas you have come up with to make the tiny space your own, very creative. 🙂 ty for sharing your story with us and TY ALEX for sharing with us as well. God bless you all and Happy Trails!

      Hello Glema!

Haha, funny you should say that! Yes, our elastics did melt, but not from the light, from the heat outside. We honestly don’t have those lights on as often as they are not LED and not as efficient as our other lights. 🙂

Our RV is a bit larger, it’s 7′-something x 26′ and we’re not living in it full-time, at least not yet. We bought and older trailer to convert into a tiny house, but hubby sort of changed our minds and it will become a mobile print shop. We have a small print shop in our front room now, and will move it to the trailer when we’re finished with rennovations.

Our RV will be readied with a tow-package and we will travel from trade days to trade days with the trailer in tow. We’ve been working on updating our RV for the last two weeks–mostly painting and redoing the kitchen. It was–in the words of another blogger–“early ugly” and we’re making it over for our needs. We don’t like propane and will use our NuWave cook tops and oven. The oven is small and cooks enough meat for two people. At present, my husband is a lab technician, but when he retires, we plan to spend as much time as possible traveling and printing t-shirts. http://ourtinyhouseonwheels.blogspot.com/

Nice to see a couple who get along well enough to live in such a small space. A tiny house will seem like a palace after this. I would need to find space to tuck in a porta-pottie somewhere. All the best for your future plans.

One day you’ll get the larger van, like I did, I went from a tiny van, travelling for years around Australia, then I bought a large van. But I never forgot the tiny van. Never. Now all these years later, I will soon buy another one 8ft x 6ft 6in. But it will have an annex, and a verandah, that’s where I’ll be most of the time.Don’t get the big one, they’re hell to lump around.
