Couple Build $10k Tiny Home with Movie Set Scraps

This post contains affiliate links.

This couple works on movie sets, where Chloe serves as a stylist and Brandon as a carpenter. Typically the couple moves around a lot to take new jobs. So designing and building a portable tiny house on wheels made perfect sense for them.

Brandon said, “We could expand our job search to anywhere in North America, and we would never leave home again.”

Once they knew they would be building a tiny house they began collecting unwanted scraps from movie sets. And nine months and $10,000 later they built their amazing tiny home. Please enjoy, learn more, and re-share below. Thank you!

I wonder if they ever worked on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean? Much of their design influence came from railroad cars, stage coaches, gypsy caravans and old ships.

The tiny house has solar panels and a battery back-up to provide electricity and there is hot water, a composting toilet and heat. They plan on installing gutters and rainwater collection barrels to gravity feed the house’s water supply.

The tiny house is currently parked in a friend’s backyard in the Hamptons. The couple say they plan to go wherever the work is, and have even considered shipping their new house to Europe saying, “… cannot wait to set sail and see the country.”

I love the Jules Verne feeling of this home. It’s absolutely adorable. A perfectly created home for traveling creative people! I really hope they are super careful with low hanging branches; this home is to beautiful to smack into a tree!

very attractive. functional?? Can it actually be towed distances? The roof that rises could be a wonderful advantage if it is actually weather proof and can be operated easily by 1 or 2 people. thank for sharing this creation,

The video explains that he is a set designer, the perfect person to create such an innovate tiny home. It also shows that the roof is raised by a systems of pulleys and the ship steering wheel. Clever. And she hand painted everything. What a labor of love.

Not my personal style, but by far the coolest tiny house I’ve seen yet, and the only one with a chandelier. Absolutely love the steampunk block and tackle/ship’s wheel roof actuation mechanism. Awesome ingenuity and upcycling! It’s a praiseworthy job. What a nice house, that functions as a portable resume as well. Great life and safe travels to you.

Whoa! You guys look like movie stars! Beautiful pictures of you both…oh, yeah…and the tiny house. Well, you won’t have to worry about your home looking like anybody elses! Every nook and cranny is unique and specially done with stuff that probably has special meaning to you both. It’s beautiful and gracious. Great job!

It’s a delightful tiny home… they have posted a recent short video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b42fpFlBFfU
In the video the interior with slideouts appears really spacious.

Functional? Yes. Pleasing to the eye? Hardly. I do like the curved roof tho.

      Yes, pleasing to the eye.

I see it’s back for another go around. The rounded roof is still the only part that appeals to me. If they would get some paint on it, that would probably go far toward making it look more appealing.

Excellent use of recycled materials on this THOW. Good value compared to some I’ve seen on here. Looks kind of like a movie set in there sort of like living in your resume. Would like more inside pictures.

Love the steampunk-y vibe, and especially the raising roof! THAT is what I’d like to do for myself, though I’m planning a much smaller (weekend-event use) trailer. Would like to be able to drop the top so the towing profile’s lower than my van’s, for better MPG and towing speed.

…And CoolTruth NAILS it with the “living in your resumé” comment. Great advertisement for the couple’s movie-set skills!

By far the best looking tiny house I have even seen. Definitely creatively designed and built. It is certainly one of the very few tiny houses I have seen that actually have some personality and style. Well done guys and thanks for sharing and inspiring!

What a fun build! I’m more shabby chic but this is fascinating. You can do any décor for your THOW and make it uniquely yours. I can see this becoming a collector’s item down the line, it’s live in art. 😀

Oh yeah that’s great. The roof goes up and the windows fold out. Very creative and takes a lot of carpentry skill to pull that off. Kind of like the old vanagons. Wonder why more people aren’t making roofs that can go up when parked.

Would love to have the plans! You should sell them. People could then modify for their own esthetic.
